Mount Macedon’s stunning mountain range has an 18km circuit that follows the Macedon Ranges Walking Trail. Surrounded by beautiful eucalypt forests and ferns this is quite a popular location for local wildlife. With sweeping views of south west Victoria from 1040m above sea level Macedon combines forests with stunning rock formations and all close to town.

The hike starts off a little road in the Macedon Ranges and goes straight into stunning eucalypt forest.
Climbing our way through the forest we first arrive at the Memorial Cross, erected in remembrance of war veterans before we make our way over to Major Mitchell's lookout. The first major lookout showing sweeping views of the South West Victoria.
As we wind our way around Mount Macedon we come to Camel's Hump a rock formation popular for rock climbing but also with beautiful views directly out West.
Continuing on through ferns and forests we arrive at Sanatorium Lake, a small lake on the Macedon Ranges.
We make our way back down the mountain to Macedon town centre and to finish off the hike.
Drop off is back at the meeting point.

You bring your own hiking gear.
This is a day hike around the the Macedon Ranges and we can come in contact with animals and snakes. So it is important to take all necessary precautions and respect the wildlife we may come into contact with.
You will be required to carry your own food, drink and any hiking gear you want to bring. I would recommend comfortable and durable shoes, backpack and water as essentials. It is probably a good idea to bring an electrolyte drink as sweating will deplete your body of minerals. Dress comfortably.
Their are some toilets along the way as we arrive in picnic areas along the hike.
There are obviously certain hazards when hiking which is explained in an indemnity form you will need to understand and sign prior to hiking
We have two vehicles we use for transport based on number of people. There is a 2023 Suzuki Jimny for 1 - 2 hikers and a 2000 Toyota Landcruiser GXL for 3 - 5 hikers.

“Cathedral Ranges Southern Side”
This tour has exceeded my expectation! I thank the supportive and knowledgeable Phil who led the whole bunch of beginners like our group. This hike was considered to be challenging for some of us, but it was so much fun as we got to explore various landscapes along the trail. We spent our lunch on the top of the range, so rewarding!! Best view to have lunch! What we love about the tour with Phil's guidance is that Phil didn't just bring us there, but he became one of the members in the group and he made us feel that we are capable, and as if he got our back! Truly incredible experience!

“Cathedral Ranges Southern Circuit”
Phil was an excellent guide, very helpful and knowledgeable. The cathedral ranges southern circuit was a very scenic and fun hike. The rock climbing and cave sections were very enjoyable and as the route was fairly level, it was not too strenuous apart from some uphill sections.
