Today I visited the Honmonji temple.
Honmonji temple is located at Ikegami in Tokyo. (Southern part of Tokyo, near Haneda airport.)
This temple was established in 1282 by Nichiren.
This is one of the Nichiren sects of Buddhism, important temples located in the place where the founder Nichiren died.
The high lights of this temple are the five-story pagoda, the Tahoto, and the 96-step long slope.
This five-story pagoda was built in 1608, the oldest in Tokyo.
The Tahoto is a red pagoda, which was built in 1830. This is the only structure in Japan.
From the entrance gate to the main hall, we can go up the 96 stone steps. (The Shikyo-nanji slope)
Near the entrance gate, there are a few sweet shops. We can eat Kuzumochi (Kudzu starch cake) which is a popular souvenir from Honmonji.
