New Year's holidays

Japanese people pay the first visit to shrines and temples on the first three days of the New Year and pray for New Yesr's wishes such as health and happiness of their families.

Osaka Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine

On January 1st I took 9 Filippinos to Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine.  Actually in 2015 about 2.3 million people visited this shrine on the first three days of the New Year. It was the 7th largest number in Japan.  This year, Of course, so many people visited the shrine.

Kyoto Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine

On January 2nd I took 4 indonesians to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine.  According to Trip Advisor, a website of a word of mouth, Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine has ranked first in the ranking of the most popular sightseeing spots for foreign tourists in Japan three years in a row.  Of course among Kansai area (Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and the like)  the largest number of people visited this shrine.  In 2015 on the first three days of the New Year as many as 2.4 millon people visited this shrine.  It was the 6th largest number in Japan.
As may be expected of the largest number of people visiting the shrine in Kansai area, we normally reached the main hall about 10 minutes but this time it took 30 minutes.

Omikuji

Omikuji are written oracles on a long, narrow piece of paper. One's overall fortune can range various aspects such as academics, business, marriage, travel, and victory or defeat.  We all drew omiikuji and I translated guests. Generally there are 7 kinds of fortunes but in this shrine there were some rare fortunes. My fortune was one of them, Number 1 kuji  "Sue Daikichi."  It is said that you take an advice from god to and live, and you'll be happy.

Arashiyama Sagano Bamboo Forest

Kyoto
8 hours

I from Arashiyama to Sagano, one of the finest spots in Kyoto. In particular the view form Togetsukyo Bridge crossing over Katsura River is very impressive. Arashiyama is populary known for cherry blossoms in spring and beautifully changing colors of autumn leaves in autumn. You can enjoy walking through bamboo forests. They give us a sense of coolness, especially on May and June they grow lushly. We visit Otagi and Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple with many small unuque statues.
