Nikko mountains were beautiful with snow. Mount Nantai is the one like a Mini Fuji. It is said that Nikko history started by a priest in the 8th century who climbed this mountain.
History of Rinnoji Temple | Rinnoji Temple
The three mountains are symbolized as three huge Buddhist statues at Rinonji Temple.
After you go thru Rinonji Temple, there is a five storied pagoda before the gates of Nikko Toshogu Shrine.
It was dedicated to the Shogun and has the sculptures of the Chinese Zodiac signs.
After the first one was burned down, the next one was built by the ancestors of Sakai.
