Chopsticks shop
Among visitors to Japan, one of the most popular souvenirs is chopsticks. There is a shop which sells chopsticks, chopstick rests and dishes, called "Ginza Natsuno." Its head store is in Ginza, a very popular and fashionable shopping district of Tokyo. In the Omote-sando branch, feel free to drop in and look around.
Eto signs
One of the best selling chopstick designs is Eto signs. Eto, which is Japanese for the twelve zodiac signs of the Chinese calendar, is rooted in our daily lives. Your Eto depends on your birth year, and each year is allocated one of the twelve animal symbols. For instance, if you were born in 1986, your Eto is a Tiger; and if your baby is born this year, his or hers is a Sheep.
Our popular custom derived from Eto is the sending and receiving of New Year's Cards. Often, they will depict the Eto of the new year being celebrated. Actually, this year I received a lot of cards with pictures of sheep. Another interesting fact is if someone turns 12, 24, 36 48...this year, they are called "Man of the year" or "Woman of the Year."
You can also get chopstick rests with Eto signs here. Even though this shop is a little hard to find , it is a personal favorite of mine because in addition to chopsticks, they also have an exquisite selection of traditional Japanese dolls and lacquerware.
A few minutes' walk from Omote-sando Station. Several minutes' walk from Harajuku Station and Meiji-jingu Shrine.
