We usually find a man who periodically calls in a house to check how much electricity the household spent. It seems to me that they are, as I see from their courteous manner, quiet and honest, but must be elderly without exceptions.
The author got fired from the job after working 10 years. The reason might be that he got on the wrong side of his scrupulous attitude from a boss of the outsourcing company. But, I think it was good for his precious life. (If I were on his position, I would be quitting the job by the end of the first day, shouting that I don't want to get the day's wage at all!)
