Have you ever heard about a sumo wrestling? It’s a traditional national sport of Japan and has a history of more than one thousand years. It’s still one of the most favorite sports in Japan as well as baseball and soccer.
The Spring Grand Sumo Tournament in Osaka ended on March 22. The tournament had been held without spectators for 15 days due to infection prevention of the coronavirus. This was the first time in the history of sumo tournaments. It’s usually filled with great cheers of more than ten thousands of sumo fans in a stadium, but there were no cheering this time. I honestly felt strange watching a quiet bout on TV. I hope the next Tokyo tournament in May can be held in thunderous cheers of spectators.
You have a chance to watch sumo wrestler’s morning exercises in sumo stables in the Tokyo tour, if their training schedule permitting. With no cheering at the time, however.
