On the stage, actors perform in an exaggerated way.with exagerated make-up. But do you know the origin was from Kyoto?
The origin
The origin of Kabuki dates back to about 400 years ago. One girl named OKUNI started a unique dance on the rever bank of the Kamo river in Kyoto. She was wearing a unique costume like a man. The dance was so unique and soon attracted many people. The dance began to be called " Kabuki Odori ", which means " Unique dance "
Experiencing some twists and turns, now Kabuki is performed by only actors. Even the woman's role is played by actors.
But in its origin, it was performed by a woman.
When you come to Kyoto, you may notice one statue standing on the reverside.
It is the one of OKUNI. And along the rever side, there were some theaters in those days,
