Den en chofu stands, somewhat middle between Shibuya and Yokohama along Toyoko Line which connects both cities.
It belongs to Ota-city in Tokyo and it is famous for being residential area for celebs and successful businessmen. The station used to be on the ground level but now it is buried underground with the concourse on the first level. The station symbol is TY08 (TY stands for Toyoko Line and 08 is the eighth station from Shibuya.) Den-en means 'pasture'.
'Den-en-chofu' was originally developed in 1918 a company named 'Den-en-toshi-kaihatsu' (Garden City developement company) whose owner was Mr. Eichi Shibusawa, very ambitious and successful businessman who was also a founder for many large companies. Later Den-en-chofu was sold to public as 'ideal residential area', targetting wealthy businessmen.
The station still conserves an old architechture and was selected as 'one of the 100 best stations' in Kanto area. Even today, this residential area has very strict regulations on public scenary. There are very few ads allowed. It's totally different from Shibuya or Shinjuku, where many buildings and houses are so fully packed together.
Den-en-chofu is also very close to Tamagawa river along which you will be able to find a park 'Tamagawa-Dai' park, which has a histrorical museum. Inside this park, ancient tombs from 4th century were discovered. This means by 4th century, there were already people living along Tamagawa river, mostlikely engaging in either fishing or agriculture or both.
As you walk towards Tamagawa station, next to Den-en-chofu station, you will find a beautiful church standing on the hilltop. This catholic church was build by Fransiscan in 1995. The church has its own Fransiscan monestry and it has served to date as a center for catholic comunity in Den-en-chofu-area.
