In Japan, there is a school event called Sports Day. The Sports Day is usually held on Sunday, so that parents can see their children trying hard in various events such as the 100-meter dash, ball-toss games, the tug-of-war, human pyramids and so on.
Just take a look at the second picture. Guess who all these people are. They are not newspaper photographers but actually the childrens' fathers. I assume this is the best place for them to take good pictures of their children. So sports days are not just for children but for adults as well. Parents can also enjoy watching their children doing their best in the events.
During lunch time, many families eat mom's delicious homemade lunch together on the school's premises. Just take a look again at the pictures of the box lunch prepared by moms. It is made very skillfully with famous characters' faces or figures made of boiled rice and side dishes.
