Authentic floating village of Kampong Phluk

Welcome to Kampong Phluk, an extraordinarily vibrant and resilient community that offers an authentic window into life on the great Tonle Sap Lake! Unlike standard tourist stops, this is a traditional, working Khmer commune made up of three distinct villages built entirely over a floodplain. With your guide, the first thing you are pointed out is the jaw-dropping architecture: rows of wooden houses perched atop towering, slender stilts that soar up to 10 meters into the air. This design is a brilliant adaptation to Cambodia's dramatic seasonal water shifts. During the dry season, these massive stilts are completely exposed, making the village look like it is standing on stilts high above dry land. But during the wet season, the lake expands massively, flooding the area so that the water rises nearly to the floorboards, instantly transforming the community into a bustling, floating town where locals travel solely by boat to get to school, church, and the local market.
