A great day hike to explore the different environment of the National Park Vicente Perez Rosales on a 12 kms hike from A to B. Beginning at La Picada Sector. About 2 hours drive from Puerto Varas.

Hotel in Puerto Varas
We will pick you at your hotel in the morning and drive bordering the south side of the Lake Llanquihue entering the National Park .The Llanquihue Lake which host one of the best scenic roads in the region. We will arrive to the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park oldest national park, founded in 1926. It covers an area of 251,000 hectares (619,970 acres), incorporating the park's center piece, Lago Todos los Santos, Saltos de Petrohué, and three commanding volcanoes: Osorno, Tronador and Puntiagudo.
Desolation Pass trail
We begin this hike at La Picada sector. The trail begins at about 900 mts asl with about 40 minutes hike going up hill to the highest pint of the trail 1100 above sea level, from here we join the trail in between the two volcanoes Picada and Osorno. Slowly descending with spectacular views of the Tronador MT (3450 mts)and Emerald Lake.

9 hours. 1 hour and 45 minutes drive from Pto Varas

kms/7.5 milles
Difficulty level:
Medium- high.
Terrain: gravel.
In the shade and sun. Mostly down hill and undulating with a good down hill to the lake Esmeralda.
Equipment to bring:
Water 2lt minimum, warm clothes according to weather and time of the year. Trekking shoes, rain jacket, sun and skin protection (sunglasses, hat).
Safety:
Emergency equipment and first aid kit.
Visit Petrohue Rapids Drive back to Puerto Varas
We will stop at the Petrohue rapids to see the amazing white waters flowing . The hole trek last for about 6 hours and depending on the people’s pace. Time to see the wonderful mountains surrounding the lakes and also enjoy a well deserved box lunch.

We will drop you off at your hotel in Puerto Varas at 18:00 approx.

Tompkins Foundation donated more than a million acres in a historic agreement with the Chilean government to create five new national parks and expand three others already in existence. The government, in turn, contributed nearly 2.5 million acres and reclassified 5.4 million acres of reserves as national parks. Chile recently debuted the epic Route of Parks. Stretching 1,700 miles from Northern Patagonia down to remote Cape Horn, This park is one of them.
