Meeting Point
Jile Temple (极乐寺)
- Jile Temple (极乐寺) Approx. 1.5 hours Background: Built in 1921, it is the largest Buddhist temple in Northeast China, belonging to the Pure Land School. The name "Jile" means “Ultimate Bliss.” What to See: The Mountain Gate (山门) and Heavenly Kings Hall (天王殿), guarded by four imposing Heavenly Kings. The Great Buddha’s Hall (大雄宝殿), the heart of the temple, with a large Buddha statue. The Seven-tiered Pagoda (七层佛塔), a highlight for photography. Locals burning incense, monks chanting — authentic spiritual atmosphere.
Confucius Temple (哈尔滨文庙)
Approx. 1.5 hours
Background: Built in 1926, it’s the largest Confucian temple in Northeast China, modeled after the Qufu Confucius Temple. It has a grand, solemn design with courtyards, halls, and carved gates.
What to See:
The Lingxing Gate (棂星门), traditional entrance to Confucian temples.
The Dacheng Hall (大成殿), dedicated to Confucius and his disciples.
Rows of steles with Confucian classics and ancient examination inscriptions.
The peaceful gardens, excellent for reflection.
