Strahov Monastery and its magnificent library halls

This Premonstratensian monastery was founded in 1140. In the complex there is the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the rare Strahov Library with a number of medieval manuscripts, maps and globes, the Baroque Theological Hall, the Classical Philosophy Hall decorated with frescoes, and the Strahov Gallery, one of the most significant Central European collections of Gothic painting, Rudolfian art, and Baroque and Rococo paintings.

10:00 AM

Loreto Church and Cernin Palace

This Marian pilgrimage site with the Baroque Church of the Nativity and a replica of the Holy House is surrounded by cloisters and chapels. In the tower there is a 27-bell carillon that plays the Loretan Marian song (every hour from 10 am to 5 pm). The Loreto treasure consists of a rare collection of liturgical objects and other votive gifts from the 16th to 18th centuries, the most famous of which is the "Prague Sun", a monstrance encrusted with 6,222 diamonds.

10:30 AM

Prague Castle Complex

The largest castle complex not only in the Czech Republic, but anywhere in the world, forms part of Prague’s distinctive skyline. Stroll through the castle courtyards, see the Old Royal Palace, explore the Cathedral of Saints Vitus, Wenceslas and Adalbert, visit Saint George’s Basilica, and wander down the picturesque Golden Lane. We also recommend a meander through the Royal Garden, where, besides its numerous enchanting nooks and crannies, you will come across Renaissance gems – the Ball Games Hall and Queen Anne’s Summer Palace, also known as Belveder. Founded in the 9th century, Prague Castle became the seat of Bohemian kings and then Czech presidents and has been a symbol of the Czech state for more than a thousand years.

11:30 AM

Little Prague Venice

The Čertovka (English: Devil's Canal), sometimes also called Little Prague Venice, is a canal in Prague.

The canal is situated in the Little Town (Malá Strana). The Čertovka takes its water from the Vltava and after 740 m it flows back into the same river. There are several medieval mills along its course. The canal was likely built in the 12th century by the Order of the Knights of Malta, who added a portion of land to the right and created an island called Kampa.

11:40 AM

John Lennon´s wall & Kampa Island

Shortly after the death of John Lennon, this stone wall surrounding the Maltese Gardens was transformed into an impromptu memorial with a painting of the singer's face. Lighted candles accompanied quotes from John’s songs about world peace and freedom, and soon slogans criticizing the totalitarian regime began to appear. With the arrival of democracy, the wall has lost some of its significance. Now it is decorated by a portrait of John Lennon and pictures created by more than 30 artists from five countries. Everyone still can express his/her opinion there, while using a pencil, a fix or a piece of chalk. Spraying is forbidden there.

12:00 PM

Famous Charles Bridge

Prague’s oldest bridge was built to replace the Judith Bridge that had been badly damaged by floods in 1342. Construction of the new bridge, originally called Stone Bridge or Prague Bridge, began in 1357 under the auspices of Charles IV and was finished in 1402. Since 1870 the bridge has been called Charles Bridge. It is built of sandstone blocks, flanked at each end by fortified towers (Lesser Town Bridge Towers, Old Town Bridge Tower). From 1683 to 1928, 30 statues of saints were carved to decorate the bridge, the most famous of which is the statue of St John of Nepomuk.

12:30 PM

Old Town Square and Old Town Hall with Astronomical Clock

The most significant square of historical Prague, it was founded in the 12th century and has been witness to many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus. In the pavement of the square are memorial stones marking the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621, and the Prague meridian.

The Old Town Hall was established in 1338 as the seat of the Old Town administration. The oldest part of the complex consists of the southern wing a beautiful Gothic tower with a bay chapel and a unique astronomical clock – known as the Orloj – where, every hour between 9 am and 11 pm, the twelve apostles appear. The Gothic Revival eastern wing of the Town Hall was destroyed during the Prague Uprising on May 8, 1945 and was never rebuilt. The visitor route includes the chapel, historical halls, the underground areas and the tower.
