Cotopaxi National Park

Cotopaxi National park is located 1 hours and 30 minutes from Quito, It is one of the highest, if not the highest active volcano in the whole world and the second-highest volcano in Ecuador at 19,347 feet (5,897 meters) above sea level. Cotopaxi is even more fascinating because it seems to emerge from the Earth from a completely flat terrain.

Cotopaxi National Park is part of the páramo ecosystem. Characterized as being cold and humid in the Ecuadorian Andes, there’s lots of different flora and fauna that you won’t find anywhere else! Here are some of the most unique things you’ll find flora and fauna.

Limpiopungo Lake

Limpiopungo lagoon , Located to the north-west of the Cotopaxi volcano, at 3800 meters above sea level, on the road that goes to the José Rivas refuge, its singular beauty captivates those who have the opportunity to visit this sector. Its clear but icy waters are surrounded by small hills and hills. It has a magnificent panorama for photography in a frame of elevations such as Cotopaxi, Sincholagua and Rumiñahui. Here you can observe a great variety of birds, herds of llamas and some other species of mammals, especially rabbits and deer, among others.

Refujio Jose Rivas

Refugio Jose Ribas located at an altitude of 4864 masl (15,953 ft), a steep hike of 800 meters (2,600 ft) from the parking lot, this is the highest point possible without high mountain equipment, one of the highest points in the country and therefore a very beautiful natural viewpoint.
