The Danakil Depression is one of the hottest, lowest, and most inhospitable places on Earth, located in northeastern Ethiopia. It sits below sea level and is part of the larger East African Rift system. The region is known for its extreme temperatures, volcanic activity, salt flats, hot springs, and unique landscapes, including vivid, sulfur-rich lakes and multi-colored mineral deposits.

Meeting Point

Your Hotel

- Please arrive at the agreed meeting point at least 30 minutes before departure time. Your guide will contact you in advance with the exact pickup location and details.

Day 1:Addis Ababa to Semera

Leave Addis Ababa early morning drive to Awash and Mille, Semera

Distance: about 580–620 km

Driving time: around 10–12 hours

Overnight stay in Semera Ardi Hotel.

Day 2: Semera to Ert'ale

•Erta Ale.

We will pick you from the Semera Hotel in the morning upon your arrival to Semera and drive directly to Erta Ale ( The active volcano shield which is starting a new activity recently) …. You will have a knowledgeable local guide, cook and security from Afdera town. Overnight in an open air camping on the top of Ertale mountain. We will visit the volcano at night and early morning.

Day 3: Ert'ale _Hamedela

•Hamedela.

We drive to Hamedela where we will drive on the volcano landscape with several stops on the way and finally visit the sunset at lake Assale and overnight in an open air camping in Hamedela ( we have all the camping gears as such a comfortable bed, clean bedsheets, mattress, pillows and portable beds.

Day 4: Dallol_Semera

•Dallol_Semera.

Early in the morning we drive to Dallol colorful sulfur field and visit these strange land which is one of the lowest point on the continent and then visit the salt mountain cave, the salt formation black water lake and finally we drive to Afdera. We will camp in nearby the lake with a hot spring shower and a swim in the lake in the afternoon. drive to Semera. over Night Ardi Hotel.

Day 5: Semera to Addis Abeba

Leave Semera early morning drive to Awash and Mille, Addis Abeba.

Distance: about 580–620 km

Driving time: around 10–12 hours

Overnight stay in Metas Hotel & Spa.

•The tour is not recommended for travelers with serious heart, back, or respiratory problems.

•Please bring enough personal medication and inform us in advance about any medical conditions.

•Carry a small backpack with essential personal items, power bank.

•Accommodation and facilities in the Danakil Depression are very basic due to the remote location.

•Travelers should be prepared for limited internet access and electricity during the tour.

•Temperatures can remain very high even at night, especially around Dallol and Erta Ale.
