A visit to Debre Libanos and Ras Darge's bridge is a popular day trip out of Addis. Debrelibanos is 105km away from Addis Ababa. The monastery is founded in the 12th century by an Ethiopian saint named abune teklehaymanot. On this day trip possible to visit one of the oldest bridges in the country named the Portuguese bridge.

We will pick you from your apartment after breakfast for an early departure and leave Addis Ababa to the north. We are passing through the Entoto Hills, which offer stunning views at the capital. Ample time is available to stop to enjoy the beautiful landscape, meet the people busy with their daily work and make pictures.
Debrelibanos monastery
After a two-hour drive, we arrive at Debre Libanos where we visit the church and the recently opened museum. Debrelibanos is a monastery founded in the 12th century by an Ethiopian Saint named abune tekle-haymanot
Abune tekle-haymanot cave.
A short, steep, path leads us to the cave where Tekle Haimanot have been praying and we will visit the cave church here.
Lunch at German lodge
We will enjoy lunch with breathtaking views over the Jemma River Gorge.
Portuguese bridge
After lunch we make a short walk to Ras Darge's bridge or called Portuguese bridge the one of the oldest bridges in Ethiopia. This bridge is built in the 16th century you will visit the bridge and amazing landscape view of the same time
Local Farmer house
After we enjoyed all the bridges and the view will drive back to Addis Ababa on our way back to Addis we will visit local farmers' houses you and see how the countryside people live life.

This is a day trip to Debre Libanos monastery founded in the 14th C by a holy man named St. Tekle Hayimanot. The monastery is belongs to Ethiopian Orthodox church and is the main pilgrimage site in the country. A Day Trip to Debre Libanos Monastery and Portuguese Bridge
Drive north from Addis Ababa (about 100km) to the Debre Libanos Monastery. This monastery was founded in the 13th century by St. Tekle Haimanot, who, according to legend, prayed for 7 years straight standing on one leg until the other leg fell off. Nearby the monastery is the Portuguese Bridge, which was the first bridge in Ethiopia. Around this area, you will hopefully see some endemic gelada baboons. Short hikes are available in the area, with stunning views of the Jemma Valley.
