Wenchi Crater Lake is one of Ethiopia’s most breathtaking natural attractions — a stunning volcanic lake nestled inside the caldera of an extinct volcano in the Oromia Region, about 150–155 km west of Addis Ababa.

The lake was formed when an ancient volcanic eruption caused the mountain’s peak to collapse, creating a large caldera that filled with water over time. The lake sits at an altitude of around 2,800–3,000 m above sea level and is surrounded by steep green slopes forests.
