Named after King Philip II, father of Alexander the Great, Philippi was one of the most important cities of the area during the Roman times.
One for the greates battles of the Roman times took place right next to it but the religious significance of the sight is probably even more important than its historical. Visited by Paul the Apostle, Philippi is the place in Europe where Christianity started and where the very first European Christians were baptised.
Let's follow the footsteps of Paul!
