There are not many foreigners who understand Hungary, and Hungarians, better than myself. This tour is for those with an inquisitive nature, who enjoy stimulating conversation, who don't want to be constrained by a tour itinerary.
This is an open forum, within a framework of interesting places to visit, to move the conversation along. Including a hidden place of peace, a beautiful garden, and with a special view of the city. Along the way, we will have coffee in a genuine Socialist Presszó,

Introductions and an outline of our tour. This is a relaxed walk, to allow dialogue and stimulating conversation to flow. Whilst I do have an outline itinerary to facilitate this, I can also listen to some suggestions for variations. Public transport is our means of travel.
Panorama 1
We will visit an often overlooked, and underappreciated spot with the best view of Budapest. Not only a great place for a photo opportunity, but a place to frame any question you have about the city or Hungary. Of course, I will facilitate the conversation to move things along, based on the wonderful view.
Panorama 2
We take a short walk to a hidden place. A place on a hill that has remained sacred through 500 years of the City's history. A place that somehow has been passed by as the conflicts and changes flowed around it. A place linking two countries over the centuries.
A place of war now a place of reconciliation. A place of peace, of a beautiful garden, and with a special view of the city, A great place to reflect on this history and culture of Hungary.
Coffee the Socialist Way
We take a short to visit a Presszó. This is not a themed coffee house, or a fake one. This is a genuine Presszó, with it's Socialist era décor and atmosphere. If you are tired of Starbucks, and want to experience a Coffee House/Bar as it was to most Hungarians for 40 years, then this is the place.
To your Hotel/Apartment/Place of Convenience/Recommended Dining Place
We return to where we started. Hopefully with a greater appreciation of Hungary and what it means to be a Hungarian. Then I escort you back to your Hotel/Apartment/Place of Convenience. At your request, additional information about Hungary will be provided during the return journey. A recommendation for dining can also be made.

This is a walking tour, supplemented by public transport. The walk can be tailored somewhat to the comfortable speed of the group. There is a small hill to climb, with a number of steps.
I can guide you throughout Hungary, This can be either me traveling to you (transport costs etc. to be paid), or, guided tours with transport included.
I'm a Brit who has lived in Hungary for 32 years. This "island" nation of Hungary is my home. I speak the language. My affection for this country, plus my ability to step outside, allows me to give unique views and perspectives to guests. The feedback I receive from guests, even from Hungarians themselves, is universally positive, as I try explain Hungary as it was, and as it is.
Note: I am a qualified Hungarian tour guide.

Thank you Laurent and Alexa, it was a pleasure to spend those hours in conversation with two people genuinely interested in Hungary and its heritage. And thankfully, the weather was great for the time of year. We covered a lot of ground both historically and physically :) Hopefully you get that chance to see the Balaton and Pécs on a future visit. Best wishes, Pieter

Breakout 1945: The End of the Siege of Budapest
“First class tour”
Pieter did an outstanding job guiding the Budapest 1945 siege breakout tour for my brother and I on this largely forgotten a/o inexplicably ignored topic. He had absolute command of the subject. Particularly good were the photos he downloaded from Hungarian National Archives, showing then and now vantage points. Really brought the events to life. Sprinkled the tour with survivors’ anecdotes. Highly recommend the tour for anyone interested in the topic. Well done.
