Þingvellir National Park
Þingvellir National Park is one of Iceland’s most iconic natural and historical sites. It was the location of the world’s first parliament in 930 AD, making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is renowned for its dramatic landscapes formed by the meeting of tectonic plates, stunning waterfalls, and the crystal-clear waters of Lake Þingvallavatn. Visitors can also experience the famous Silfra fissure, offering one of the world’s best diving spots.
Geysir Geothermal Area
The Geysir Geothermal Area is one of Iceland’s most famous natural wonders, known for its bubbling hot springs and steaming geothermal activity. The highlight of the area is the Strokkur geyser, which erupts every few minutes, shooting boiling water up to 30 meters (100 ft) into the air. Visitors can also admire colorful hot pools, mud pots, and the raw geothermal energy that makes this site an unforgettable stop in the Golden Circle.
Gullfoss Waterfall
Gullfoss, also known as the “Golden Falls,” is one of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls. The powerful Hvítá River cascades in two dramatic stages into a rugged canyon, creating breathtaking views. On sunny days, a shimmering rainbow often appears above the falls, adding magic to the scenery. As one of the highlights of the Golden Circle, Gullfoss offers visitors a truly unforgettable glimpse into the raw beauty of Icelandic nature.
Special stop at Friðheimar Tomato Farm Restaurant
Friðheimar is a unique and special stop on the Golden Circle, combining fresh flavors with innovative greenhouse farming. Inside the geothermal-powered greenhouses, tomatoes are grown year-round in Iceland’s challenging climate. Visitors can enjoy delicious dishes made from freshly harvested tomatoes, such as the famous tomato soup, while also learning about sustainable farming practices. This warm and inviting experience offers a delightful contrast to Iceland’s wild landscapes.
Kerið Volcanic Crater (optional)
Kerið Volcanic Crater is a striking natural landmark, estimated to be around 3,000 years old. Known for its vivid red volcanic rock and the sparkling blue lake at its base, the crater offers a truly unique view. Visitors can walk along the rim for panoramic scenery or descend to the lake for a closer look. The dramatic contrast of colors makes Kerið a photographer’s dream and a memorable optional stop on the Golden Circle.
Efstidalur Ice Cream Farm
Efstidalur Ice Cream Farm is a delightful family-run stop along the Golden Circle. Famous for its homemade ice cream crafted from the farm’s own dairy cows, it offers visitors a taste of fresh Icelandic flavors in a cozy countryside setting.
