Walk in the footsteps of soldiers through Reykjavík’s WWII history - then drive to a quiet fjord where Arctic convoys once prepared for the “Worst Journey in the World.” This private tour blends city sights, wartime stories, coastal ruins, and a visit to the excellent War and Peace Museum. Customised to your interests, this full-day journey reveals the hidden side of Iceland’s role in the Second World War.

Meeting Point
Meet in Austurvollur - or hotel pick up
- We'll begin at Austurvöllur Square, outside Hotel Borg - or, if you're staying nearby, we're happy to collect you from your Reykjavík accommodation. (Pickups outside central Reykjavík may require extra time.)
WWII Walking Tour of Reykjavík
We start our day with a walking tour through the heart of Reykjavík, retracing the steps of the 1940 British invasion. Highlights include:
WWII-era photo comparisons and storytelling
Discussions on British and American occupation
Spies and the social impact on daily life
How the occupation changed the city physically
This portion of the tour follows the same route as our "Reykjavík’s WWII Secrets" walking tour and lasts about 1.5–2 hours.
Coffee break
After our walk, we stop at Brauð & Co, one of Reykjavík’s best-loved bakeries, for a warm pastry and a moment to refuel.
Gun Emplacements at Öskjuhlíð
Next, we head by car to the remains of WWII-era gun emplacements on Öskjuhlíð hill. These were installed by British forces to protect Reykjavík's strategic harbour and airfield.
Into Hvalfjörður
We drive into the scenic Hvalfjörður (“Whale Fjord”), once the site of a major Allied naval base. On the shores of the fjord, we visit:
Wartime ruins and convoy sites
The excellent War and Peace Museum, filled with personal stories, uniforms, and artifacts from Iceland’s wartime experience
Optional Stop: Hvammsvík Hot Springs
On our return journey along the fjord's beautiful coastal road, you have the option to stop and soak at Hvammsvík Hot Springs (entry not included). This peaceful spa sits on the site of a former American base and offers a perfect blend of history and relaxation.
Ending Point
Return to your hotel - or anywhere else in the city.

From April 1st to September 30th every year
With over 12 years of guiding experience (the last 6 right here in magical Iceland), I bring a deep love for this country’s wild landscapes, rich history, and unforgettable adventures. Whether you want to explore Reykjavik's quiet corners, chase waterfalls off the beaten path, or follow your curiosity deep into the Highlands (when the season allows!), I’m here to create a tour that’s uniquely yours.
I’ve guided everything from WWII history walks to whale and puffin tours, and I’ve travelled every side road I could find - collecting stories, fun facts, and local gems to share along the way. Whatever your interests, I’ll help bring Iceland alive in a way that’s personal, thoughtful, and always a little fun (I am known for my excellent puns, after all!).
In my downtime, you’ll find me hiking, exploring in my 4x4, visiting museums (I’m a bit of a history buff), or just soaking in life here in Reykjavik, my home for the past six years.
I’m excited to meet you, learn what you love, and build an unforgettable Icelandic adventure together.
Let’s go exploring!
