Hamdeok Beach (함덕해수욕장)
Hamdeok Beach, also referred to as Hamdeok Seoubonghaebyeon Beach, is located along Jeju Olle Trail Course 19. Positioned just 20 kilometers from Jeju International Airport, the beach is renowned for its clear emerald waters, swaying palm trees, and soft white sands. As one of Jeju’s top three beaches, it offers a picturesque landscape perfect for relaxation. Visitors can enjoy a walk along the bridge extending over the water or have a leisurely picnic on the grassy field. The coastal walking trail provides additional scenic views. During the summer evenings, the beach becomes a favorite spot for enjoying the view of the night sea. Seoubong Volcanic Cone, located nearby, blooms with bright yellow canola flowers in spring, and those who hike to its summit are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding area, including Hallasan Mountain on clear days.
Seongsan Ilchulbong (성산일출봉)
Formed over 5,000 years ago from a volcanic eruption beneath the sea, Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone rises 180 meters above sea level. Originally a separate island, it gradually connected to the mainland through the natural buildup of sand and soil. Its vast crater, measuring around 600 meters in diameter and 90 meters deep, was created as lava met the cold ocean water. Today, the once-agricultural site is covered in silver grass, adding to its charm. Popular among tourists, Seongsan Ilchulbong offers breathtaking views from its summit, including glimpses of Udo Island and the vibrant sunrise. Due to its geological and ecological significance, the site was declared a natural reserve on July 19, 2000. It has also served as a filming location for various movies, capturing its striking beauty.
Seokjikoji (섭치코지)
Seopjikoji, named after the Jeju dialect word "koji," meaning cape, extends into the sea, offering a picturesque coastal view. It is located just south of Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone and is a popular tourist destination. The hilltop features a traditional beacon fire station, constructed using volcanic rocks, standing 4 meters tall and 9 meters in diameter. Beyond the fire station is the Bulgeunoreum Volcanic Cone, which is distinct for its red soil. A white lighthouse atop the cone offers a striking contrast against the landscape. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean, canola flower fields, and the distant Seongsan Ilchulbong. Seopjikoji’s scenic beauty has made it a favored filming site for numerous Korean movies and dramas, adding to its cultural appeal.
Seongeup Folk Village (성읍민속촌)
Seongeup Folk Village is a living cultural site that preserves the traditional lifestyle of Jeju’s past. Designated as an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage, it offers an authentic glimpse into the island's heritage. Unlike typical folk villages, Seongeup remains an active residential community where people continue their daily routines. Local residents often volunteer as guides, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the village’s history and customs. A highlight of the village is the Saw-leaf Zelkova and Japanese Hackberry trees located at its center, providing a serene and picturesque spot worth visiting. Through its well-preserved architecture and cultural significance, Seongeup Folk Village serves as a meaningful connection to Jeju’s rich past.
Jeju Stone Park (제주돌문화공원)
Jeju Stone Park, situated in Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, is a cultural and historical space that celebrates the island’s deep-rooted connection to stone. The park's concept is inspired by the myth of Seolmundae Halmang, the grandmother figure said to have created Jeju Island, along with the legendary Obaek Janggun, or Five Hundred Generals, represented by stones. Every stone in the park reflects a piece of Jeju’s identity and history. As visitors explore the park, they are immersed in the island’s folklore and natural beauty. The park serves as a tribute to Jeju's volcanic origins, cultural traditions, and the resilience of its people, making it a meaningful and educational experience for all.
