The Museum of the Mummies of Guanajuato is a unique and somewhat gruesome tourist attraction located in Guanajuato, Mexico. The mummies are naturally preserved bodies, primarily from the 19th century, which have been exhumed from a local cemetery due to a law requiring families to pay a 'burial tax' (abolished in 1958).
The Temple of the Valenciana is a stunning baroque church located in the historic city of Guanajuato, Mexico. It was built in the late 18th century by the Marquis of the Valenciana, Antonio de Urrutia, as a token of gratitude for the wealth he amassed from the nearby Valenciana mine.
The temple is known for its intricate and ornate interior decorations, including gold leaf, detailed carvings, and a remarkable pipe organ. The exterior is equally impressive, featuring a bell tower that offers a panoramic view of the city.
The Pípila Viewpoint (Mirador del Pípila) is a popular tourist spot in Guanajuato, Mexico. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city, including the historic center, the colorful houses built on the hillsides, and the surrounding mountains.
The viewpoint is named after Juan José de los Reyes Martínez Amaro, known as El Pípila, a hero of the Mexican War of Independence. The monument of El Pípila, a large statue of a man carrying a torch, is located at the top of the hill.
To reach the Pípila Viewpoint, you can take a funicular (a type of cable railway) from the city center. It's a short but steep ride, offering a unique perspective of the city's narrow streets and colorful buildings. Once at the top, you can enjoy the stunning views, take memorable photos, and learn about the history of El Pípila and his role in Mexico's independence.
This former hacienda, or large estate, dates back to the 18th century and was once a thriving center of agriculture and industry.
Today, the Ex Hacienda del Cochero is a museum that offers visitors a glimpse into Mexico's colonial past. The hacienda's main house has been preserved and restored, showcasing the grand architecture and design of the era. The museum also features exhibits on the history of the hacienda, the life of its inhabitants, and the agricultural and industrial processes that took place there.
The Hotel Castillo Santa Cecilia is a charming hotel located in the heart of Guanajuato, Mexico. This hotel is housed in a beautifully restored 18th-century building, offering a unique blend of historical charm and modern comfort.
These subterranean streets were originally excavated to divert the Rio Guanajuato (Guanajuato River) and prevent flooding in the city center. Over time, the tunnels were repurposed to alleviate traffic congestion by directing eastbound vehicle traffic underground, while westbound traffic remains on the city’s surface streets.
You finish the tour at the downtown of the city, where we invite you to walk on the beautiful historic center of Guanajuato, Human Cultural Heritage
