In the fifteenth century, the Ottomans chose it as the capital of Rumelia, i.e., their Balkan provinces. For this institutional tradition, Sofia remained the capital of the re-established Bulgarian principality in 1879. Over the last 140 years, it has experienced economic and demographic expansion. You may discover all these historical facts and the enticing tastes of wine and rakia with me... Any of the tours I offer can be customised upon request, with visits to towns such as Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Samokov, Melnik, or the Rila Monastery, or a combination of these and many more, and can include religious sites, traditional restaurants, and limited-production wineries.
