Chinatown
We'll start from where it all began for the early immigrants from China - along the 'banks' of what used to be Telok Ayer. Listen to the stories of these immigrants as they first stepped foot onto our Singapore soil at Telok Ayer. Learn how their long and arduous journeys from China led to the building of Singapore's oldest Chinese temple - Thian Hock Keng temple.
We would then take a walkthrough inside the temple. Appreciate the architecture of the temple and understand more about the different facets to this historical temple. If you're lucky, you may even see a family of BATS taking residence within the temple premises itself!
Next, take a walk along the back alleys only known to locals, to head over to the main part of Chinatown Singapore.
There, you would see places of worship for 3 different religions that are located along the stretch of South Bridge Road; probably the only stretch of Chinatown in the world that offers such religious diversity in the form of having a mosque, Hindu temple and Buddhist temple!
Take a walk along its streets of Chinatown and appreciate the architecture of the shophouses that have been purposefully preserved whilst its uses have evolved to remain relevant across changing times. Learn more about the lives of the Chinese immigrants who used to make these shophouses their homes, as well as the struggles that they faced in embarking a new life in Singapore.
Little India
At the end of our journey around Chinatown, just a short train ride away, our journey around Little India begins! Probably the most rustic of the 3 heritage places, Little India has preserved a lot of its traditional elements making the walkthrough here a most authentic and rugged one.
Starting at Tekka Centre, we'll visit one of Singapore's famous wet market. Following that, we would visit Tekka's hawker center (food market), famous for its wide variety of Indian food. Buy a refreshing cup of sugar cane drink or fresh coconut juice directly from the fruit itself as a form of respite from Singapore's heaty and humid climate!
Next, take a walk along the streets of Little India and take in the aromatic smell of fresh cut flowers at the various flower garland stalls that are abundant in the area. Pay a visit to Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, and learn more about Hinduism and its religious practices.
A trip to Little India is not complete without a photo stop at the photogenic former house of Tan Teng Niah. That's a picture worthy of any IG story to capture the memories of your visit to Little India in Singapore!
We'll then head back to the nearest train station before heading over to the next location.
Kampung Glam & Haji Lane
Lastly, explore the vibrant restaurant vibes, trendy shops and beautiful wall murals of Haji Lane whilst taking in the majestic view of the Sultan Mosque.
Take a walk along Haji Lane and explore the different locally owned shops that offer a good combination of hipster and party vibes that appeal greatly to the younger (& young at heart) demographics. Get lost in the eye-catching wall murals that can be found in great abundance all along Haji Lane and the whole Kampung Glam area.
Moving on to the heart of Kampung Glam area, learn more about the history of the area and stories behind the emergence of a strong middle eastern influence around the area. Keep a lookout at the wealth of food options that are aplenty in the area, giving you an endless array of local food and cafes to quell your gastronomic needs at the end of the tour.
Lastly, marvel at the majestic view of the Sultan Mosque, undeniably the gem and main highlight of the area. Find out about the story of the 'black band'. Not to be missed is also the customary photo shot to be taken between the shophouses of Bussorah Street, with the Sultan Mosque providing a wonderful backdrop. Definitely one for the gram!
