Meeting Point
Amoy Street Food Centre
- Address: 7 Maxwell Rd, Singapore 069111. Meet your guide at Amoy Street Food Centre, near stall 01-01 "Fried Kway Teow". Tip: come a bit early and grab some snacks or coffee before the tour! We will then set off to walk along Amoy Street and learn why the street is called Amoy Street and learn the stories of the early migrants to Singapore.
Thian Hock Keng Temple
Explore one of Singapore’s oldest temples, dedicated to Mazu, the sea goddess. Discover how Chinese immigrants shaped the city around this historic site.
Afterwards, we will walk along Telok Ayer Street and pass Ying Fo Fui Kun, a Hakka clan association, as well as the Fuk Tak Chi Museum, a temple that is now converted to a museum and serves as a hotel lobby.
Yueh Hai Ching Temple
A serene temple in between the skyscrapers of the financial district of Singapore, this Teochew temple is also famously called as the "Temple of Love". It features beautiful intricate carvings and rich cultural stories intertwined with the Teochew community.
After the visit, we will make our way to South Bridge Road, passing by Pickering Street. Pickering Street was named after William Alexander Pickering, the first Protector of Chinese in Singapore.
Sri Mariamman Temple
After seeing the major Chinese temples, and also passing Masjid Jamae, a mosque built by Indian Muslim community, we then come to a grand Hindu temple of Sri Mariamman. Marvel at the ornate gopuram and learn about the Hindu community that calls Singapore home.
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum
After passing by Chinatown and learn about its vibrant life, visit this landmark temple in the heart of Chinatown, home to a sacred relic of the Buddha’s tooth. We will explore the temple and its beautiful, serene halls.
