“Half Day in Echizen: Washi, Knife Making & Laquerware”
This was our 1st trip to Echizen and we had limited time. Megumi picked us up from the train station and graciously transported all of our luggage too! She listened extremely well to our interests and customized a tour that was perfect- she even was able to fit in a quick lunch in a nice park. The washi tour was incredibly moving - and the history and connection will stick with us; Aki, our 80 yr old tour guide is an absolute gem. Megumi was also able to pivot quickly during our visit to the Takafu Knife Center, we were able to visit an artisan in his shop and purchase one of his handmade knife’s. The lacquerware and temple stops were also wonderful. We highly recommend you book a tour with Megumi. She will make your day unforgettable.

“An experience you will never forget ”
Megumi is a wonderful guide that has put together the perfect Washi paper experience. We spent the morning making two different pieces of washi paper with sensei. Making washi paper is harder than it looks and has a mind & body connection. Remember to relax. We had lunch at a spectacular local eatery. Then in the afternoon, we had a personal factory tour by sensei Aki. Sensei Aki is such a delightful person. She is very knowledgeable. Her factory has been operating for 4 generations and at 81 she is one of the 2nd generation of owners. We can’t thank Megumi enough for such an awesome experience! It was delightful in every way.

Phil san's gentle personality and Theresa's bright smile made the tour so special for all of us, the sensei and myself included! We truly appreciated the time we were able to share together. Please come visit Japan again someday. Next time, let’s all wear matching T-shirts! Thank you so much!

“Had the best day of my entire trip with Megumi!”
Words cannot express what this day brought to me. It was incredibly moving, powerful, scenic, life injecting. The washi paper tour demonstrated all the craft you can imagine and the people I spoke and met with were unforgettable, it literally had me questioning my life and wanting to move to Echizen haha. Megumi was so knowledgable, friendly, and so lovely. We spent the entire day together and it felt like being with a friend the entire time. If you’re thinking about this tour, don’t think! Just do it!!!!

Hi, I am Yoshie. I am a national government licensed English speaking Guide. I used to work for multinational companies and served as an interpreter for several years and travelled around Japan with coworkers. I love plants, nature, travelling as well as finding good places to eat! I am also a communicative person. After having lived in Tokyo for some decades, now I live in my hometown, Fukui where you can have a great experience of Zen buddhism in the head temple of the Zen sect, Eiheiji which was founded in 1244. Fukui Dinosaur Museum is very popular regardless of age. It is one of the world's three largest dinosaurs. Echizen is also well known for Japan's handmade crafts including kitchen knives, washi paper, lacquer wares, Tansu chests and pottery. Seeing craftsmen's work right in front of you makes you excited and impressed. I have been travelling Kanazawa since my high school age so I know well about the town to show you around as well as Shirakawago, a day trip from Kanazawa. I am excited to meet you and coordinate what you are really interested in to make you the happiest memories in Japan. I look forward to guiding you soon!

Welcome to Hokuriku! I’m based in Kanazawa and would love to show you around not just the famous sights, but also the everyday beauty and hidden corners that make this region special. I also provide winter tours and have a logistics team for your expedient comfort needs and convenience. Whether you're strolling through samurai districts, sampling fresh seafood at a local market, or soaking in the peaceful atmosphere of mountain villages like Takayama, Shirakawa-go or Ainokura among many more, I’ll help you experience Japan in a way that feels personal, relaxed, and real. I grew up in BC Canada with friends from all over the world, and now call Japan home. I speak conversational Japanese and understand both the traveler’s curiosity and the local rhythm of life. That means I can help bridge the gap, so you feel comfortable and connected wherever we go. Every tour is flexible—if the weather shifts or something catches your eye, we can adapt. My goal is to make your time here smooth, engaging, and full of insight. Let’s explore Hokuriku together, one story, flavor, and moment at a time.
