Meeting Point
Day 1. Dushanbe
- - Arrival in Dushanbe in the early morning hours. - Hotel check-in followed by free time to relax and recover from your trip. - Discover the highlights of Dushanbe on a city tour, including visits to: - The Antique Museum, a traditional bazaar, the Cathedral Mosque, Navruz Palace tea house, Hissar Fortress, Flag Park, and the central square. - Overnight stay included: Hotel Taj (4-star) – USD 80.
Day 2. Dushanbe - Kalai-Khum
- Departure from Dushanbe.
- The journey heads toward the spectacular Pamir Mountains, following the Panj River and passing through some of Tajikistan’s most impressive natural scenery. Along the route, there is a stop at the 9th-century Hulbuk Fortress and its museum, where you can learn about the region’s historical and cultural background.
- As the drive continues, enjoy panoramic mountain landscapes and views of traditional Afghan villages located across the river. You will also have the chance to observe local life and interact with hospitable communities who preserve their long-standing traditions.
- Overnight stay included: Local guesthouse (USD 40, no star rating).
Day 3. Kalai Khum- Khigez
- In the morning, we set off toward the Bartang Valley, with a stop in the village of Khigez. Here, you will experience the local lifestyle, visit a traditional Pamiri home, and learn about its cultural importance and distinctive design.
- Overnight stay included: Local guesthouse (USD 40, no star rating).
Day 4. Khigez - Khorog
- After breakfast, we drive to the trailhead and begin a 7 km hike to Jizev village, a picturesque walk of approximately 2–3 hours, famous for its beautiful glacier-fed lakes.
- Following a visit to the lakes and lunch at a local home, we return to the main road and continue by vehicle to Khorog. After checking into the hotel, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the town park, visit the Khorog Museum, and explore the lively local bazaar to get a feel for the region’s culture and daily life.
- Accommodation included: Lal Hotel (3-star) – USD 70.
5. Khorog - Bibi Fotimai Hot Spring
- After breakfast in Khorog, we set off toward the famous Garmchashma Hot Springs, enjoying the dramatic mountain landscapes along the way. From there, we continue to Ishkashim, a small town located at the gateway to the historic Wakhan Corridor, once an important passage during the era of the Great Game in the 19th century.
- En route, we make a stop at the ancient Kakh-Kakha Fortress (4th century AD), a relic of the Kushan period. The drive follows the northern side of the river, offering expansive views of the Pamir Mountains. As we enter the Wakhan Valley, the scenery becomes especially striking, with the Pamirs stretching on one side and the Hindu Kush range on the other, while Karl Marx Peak (6,723 m) dominates the horizon.
- We then proceed to Vrang village to explore the Vrang Stupa, a multi-level stone structure dating back to the 4th–7th centuries. This sacred site, overlooking the Panj River, is part of an ancient Buddhist complex that includes caves and old monastery remains, surrounded by local legends.
- The journey continues deeper into the Wakhan region, where we visit the impressive Yamchun Fortress, dramatically positioned above the valley. Afterwards, we relax at the Bibi Fotima Hot Springs, known for their mineral-rich waters and peaceful setting.

Day 6. Bibi Fotima Hot Spring - Bulunkul
- We begin our journey with a visit to Yamg Village, where you can discover the unique 19th-century solar calendar designed by the local Sufi scholar Muboraki Vakhoni, along with his traditional home, now preserved as a small museum.
- Next, we continue to explore the ancient petroglyph site, featuring more than 600 rock carvings created by early inhabitants of the region, offering a fascinating window into prehistoric life and stories of the past.
The route then takes us across the Khargush Pass (4,344 m), one of the headwaters of the Amu Darya River, where travelers are rewarded with breathtaking views of high-altitude scenery, rugged mountains, and untouched alpine lakes.
- Lake Bulunkul & Yashil-Kul: From the pass, a spectacular view of Lake Bulunkul opens up. Nearby lie Yashil-Kul (entrance fee not included) and Bulunkul Lakes, known as the “Blue Lakes,” located at around 3,700 m in the Murghab region. These remote lakes are rich in fish and represent one of the most beautiful natural highlights of the area.
- Yaks & Local Wildlife: Along the way, you may also see yaks, strong high-altitude animals adapted to harsh conditions. They are widely used by local communities for transport and provide milk, meat, and other essential products, reflecting mountain life.
- Time for exploration and photography, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and dramatic landscapes of the high-altitude region.

Day 7. Bulunkul - Murgab
- We continue our journey toward Murghab, with scenic stops along the way at Tezkul (Salty Lake) and Sasilkul (often called Stinky Lake), where the unusual terrain and vivid natural colors create excellent opportunities for photography.
- En route, we pass through Alichur Village, where we pause to explore the settlement and enjoy a traditional local lunch with regional flavors.
- On arrival in Murghab, we take a walking tour of the town, visiting the central mosque and the local bazaar, known for its unique construction made largely from repurposed shipping containers.
- Overnight stay included: Pamir Hotel (3-star) – USD 50.
Day 8. Murgab - Karakul
- We drive to Karakul Lake (Black Lake), heading toward the Tajik–Kyrgyz border and crossing the legendary Khushang Pass (formerly Ak-Baital Pass) at 4,655 meters — one of the highest motorable mountain passes in the world and the highest in the former Soviet region. Along the way, we enjoy views of dramatic mountain peaks and the border with China.
- Upon arrival at Karakul, we take a short walk to the western shore and climb a nearby hill for panoramic views over the lake. In clear weather, the magnificent Abuali Ibni Sino Peak (7,134 m) is visible in the distance.
- Later, we stroll through Karakul Village and along the lakeshore, taking in the beautiful landscape and fresh mountain air.

Karakul - Kyrgyzstan Border
- The day begins with a drive along the border area between Tajikistan and China, offering remote and scenic landscapes throughout the route.
On the way, we make a stop at an ancient solar calendar site, where archaeological discoveries indicate a history stretching back more than 2,000 years.
- The journey then proceeds toward the Tajikistan–Kyrgyzstan border, marking the final point of the itinerary.
