Meeting Point

Day 1. Dushanbe

- - Early morning arrival in Dushanbe. - Transfer to the hotel for rest and recovery after the journey. - Guided city tour of the capital, Dushanbe, featuring visits to: The Antique Museum, local bazaar, Cathedral Mosque, Navruz Palace teahouse, Hissar Fortress, Flagpole Park, and the Main Square. - Accommodation included (USD 80): Hotel Taj (4-star).

Day 2. Dushanbe - Kalai Khum

- Departure from Dushanbe.

- The route leads toward the impressive Pamir Mountains, following the picturesque Panj River through some of the country’s most stunning scenery. En route, guests explore the historic 9th-century Hulbuk Fortress along with the Hulbuk Museum, providing insight into the area’s deep-rooted history and cultural traditions. The drive continues with expansive mountain views and remarkable sights of traditional Afghan settlements across the river. During the trip, you will meet friendly local residents whose traditional way of life is matched by their warm hospitality.

Day 3. Kalai Khum- Khorog

- Scenic drive from Kalai Khumb to Khorog (280 km, approximately 7 hours), passing through one of the most picturesque stretches of the Pamir Highway.

- The road follows the Panj River, offering impressive mountain scenery and striking views of traditional Afghan villages on the opposite bank.

- Evening walk in Khorog Park, a calm green space popular among local residents.

- Accommodation included (USD 70): Lal Hotel (3-star).

Day 4. Khorog - Bibi Fotima Hot Spring

- After breakfast, departure from Khorog with a visit to the renowned Garmchashma Hot Springs, set among impressive mountain landscapes. The journey continues to Ishkashim, a small town marking the entrance to the historic Wakhan Corridor, once a key route during the 19th-century Great Game.

- En route, we stop at the ruins of Kakh-Kakha Fortress (4th century AD), built during the Kushan era. Driving along the northern bank of the river, travelers enjoy wide views of the Pamir Mountains. As we enter the Wakhan Corridor, stunning scenery unfolds—the Pamirs on one side and the Hindu Kush on the other, with Karl Marx Peak (6,723 m) visible in the distance.

We then visit the Vrang Stupa in Vrang village, a 4th–7th century stone structure overlooking the Panj River, part of an ancient Buddhist site with caves and walls. Local legends say the top stone carries the Buddha’s footprint.

- The journey continues to Yamchun Fortress, one of the region’s most notable landmarks. Afterward, we visit Bibi Fotima Hot Springs for relaxation before an overnight stay in a nearby guesthouse in the Wakhan Corridor.

Day 5. Bibi Fotima Hot Spring - Bulunkul - Alichur

- Drive to Bulunkul: The journey continues across the Khargush Pass (4,344 m), known as one of the sources of the Amu Darya River, offering spectacular views of high-altitude terrain and untouched alpine lakes along the route.

- Lake Bulunkul & Yashil-Kul: From the pass, travelers enjoy panoramic views of Lake Bulunkul. Nearby are Yashil-Kul (entrance fee not included) and Bulunkul Lakes, often called the “Blue Lakes,” located at around 3,700 m in the Murghab region. These remote lakes are rich in fish and represent one of the area’s most striking natural highlights.

- Yaks & Local Wildlife: Along the way, you may encounter yaks—resilient animals adapted to high altitudes. Widely used by local communities, they provide milk, meat, and transport, reflecting the traditional lifestyle of the region.

- Excursions & Leisure: Time is allocated to explore the lakes, take photographs, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Later, we drive to Alichur village, passing Tuzkul (Salt Lake) and Sasikul (often referred to as the “Stinky Lake”).

Day 6. Alichur - Jarti Gumbez

- Drive to Jarty Gumbez (Dzharty-Gumbez), a remote high-altitude settlement situated at 4,130 meters above sea level. The route passes through striking landscapes of colorful mountains, providing excellent photo opportunities and unforgettable alpine scenery. This lesser-visited destination is known for its natural sulfur hot springs, an old cemetery, and its proximity to a hunting camp base, making it especially appealing for adventure travelers and trekking enthusiasts.

Day 7. Jarti Gumbez - Murgab

- The journey continues toward Murghab, crossing a wide plateau where we pass the abandoned Soviet-era Shorbulak (Shor-Buloq) Observatory between Jarty Gumbez and Murghab. In clear weather, travelers can enjoy distant views of Muztagh Ata (7,509 m), one of China’s highest peaks, rising prominently on the horizon and highlighting the vastness of the Eastern Pamirs.

- Along the route, we stop at Shakhty Cave, which contains some of the oldest rock art in Central Asia, dating back to the 8th–5th millennium BCE. The red iron-oxide paintings illustrate hunting scenes with human figures and animals, offering valuable insight into the beliefs and daily life of early inhabitants.

- Upon arrival in Murghab, we take a short walk around the town, including visits to the local mosque and the distinctive bazaar, built mainly from converted shipping containers.

- Accommodation included (USD 50): Pamir Hotel (3-star).

Day 8. Murghab - Karakul

- Drive to Karakul Lake (Black Lake), continuing toward the Tajik–Kyrgyz border and crossing the famous Khushang Pass (formerly Ak-Baital Pass) at 4,655 meters, one of the highest drivable mountain passes in the world and the highest in the former Soviet Union. The route offers dramatic mountain scenery and distant views toward the Chinese border.

- Upon arrival at Karakul, we take a short walk along the western shore and hike up a nearby hill for panoramic views of the lake. In clear weather, the impressive Abuali Ibni Sino Peak (7,134 m) can be seen on the horizon.

- Later, we explore Karakul Village and walk along the lakeside, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and fresh high-altitude air.

Day 9. Karakul - Kyrgyzstan Border

We start the day traveling along the Tajikistan–China border region. Along the way, we stop at an ancient solar calendar site, where archaeological evidence suggests a history of over 2,000 years. The journey then continues toward the Tajikistan–Kyrgyzstan border, where the trip comes to an end.
