Tran Quoc Pagoda
We will visit Tran Quoc Pagoda. This is the oldest pagoda in Hanoi, Tran Quoc Pagoda has stood for over 1,500 years, bearing witness to the city’s rich spiritual and cultural history. Nestled by the West Lake, this serene site draws countless visitors each year who come to admire its timeless beauty and learn about its deep-rooted significance in Vietnamese Buddhism.
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
We continue to walk to Ho Chi Minh‘s Mausoleum. For many first-time visitors to Hanoi, a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum offers a powerful introduction to Vietnam’s modern history. Nestled in Ba Dinh Square — where President Ho Chi Minh declared the country's independence in 1945 — the mausoleum is a place of deep national pride. Here, travelers can witness the respectful silence of locals queuing patiently to pay tribute to 'Uncle Ho', whose simple lifestyle and leadership left an enduring legacy in the hearts of the Vietnamese people. Surrounded by manicured gardens and historic buildings, the site offers not only a glimpse into the country's past, but also a moment of quiet reflection amid the vibrant energy of the capital.
Temple of Literature
Next stop is the Temple of Literature, which was originally built as a temple to Confucius, the first university of Vietnam. Founded in 1070 as a center of learning honoring Confucius and esteemed scholars, this historic site served as Vietnam’s first national university. Today, it remains remarkably well-preserved, showcasing classic Vietnamese architectural elegance with its peaceful courtyards, ancient stone steles, and intricate wooden pavilions.
Street food in the Old Quarter
I will take you on a flavorful journey through Hanoi’s vibrant Old Quarter, where every corner tells a culinary story. As we stroll through the bustling alleys and local markets, we’ll stop at an authentic local eatery to enjoy one signature Vietnamese dish for lunch. One of the popular options is Beef Pho – a comforting bowl of rice noodles served in a fragrant, slow-simmered beef broth infused with traditional herbs and spices.
Hoa Lo Prison
After lunch, we will continue to visit the infamous Hoa Lo Prison Museum, also known as the ‘’Hanoi Hilton’’ and was where former US presidential candidate John McCain was incarcerated for over 5 years.
Train Street of Hanoi
We’ll take a break at a cozy café along Hanoi’s famous Train Street — once one of the capital’s most iconic spots for travelers. Tucked away in a narrow alley lined with tall, tightly packed homes, this unique street has a charm all its own. While we sip our coffee drink, you’ll get to experience the thrill of a train passing just inches away.
