After the students on duty come back to the classroom with the food containers, they start serving the food to the rest of the students. Like in the school cafeteria, they line up to be served and then come back to their seats. In Japan, elementary and junior high schools provide hot lunch in classrooms, while high school students can have lunch in the school cafeteria.
Students usually make groups by putting their desks and chairs together to enjoy chatting over lunch. After eating lunch, every student cooperates to clear away the dishes and the students on duty return them to the pantry.
