Preah Khan temple
Preah Khan is one of the absolute masterpieces of the Grand Circuit. Translating to "The Sacred Sword," this massive 12th-century complex was built by King Jayavarman VII to honor his father, mirroring Ta Prohm which he dedicated to his mother. Preah Khan wasn't just a temple; it was a sprawling royal city, a Buddhist monastery, and a major university hosting over 100,000 officials, servants, and teachers. What makes Preah Khan a true highlight is its raw, unrestored atmosphere. As we walk through its flat, labyrinthine layout, you'll see colossal silk-cotton tree roots physically melting into the stone walls, bridging the gap between nature and human architecture. We will enter across a dramatic moat bridge flanked by gods and demons pulling a cosmic serpent Nagas, then pass outer laterite walls guarded by 72 magnificent, five-meter-tall stone Garudas (mythical birds). You are deep in the nature here!
Neak Pean temple
Next on this amazing tour, you arrive at the incredibly unique and serene Neak Pean, a late 12th-century Buddhist sanctuary that functions completely differently from any other temples in Angkor. Often referred to as the "Hospital Temple," this mystical site was designed by King Jayavarman VII as a grand medicinal crossroads. To reach it, we will walk along a long, beautiful wooden bridge over the flooded plains of the Jayatataka Baray, offering magnificent panoramic views of water and half-submerged trees. The temple itself sits on an artificial island arranged as a perfect architectural mandala—a sacred geometric layout representing cosmic harmony. At its heart is a large central pool symbolizing the mythical Himalayan lake Anavatapta, whose waters were believed to cure all ailments. Four smaller, symmetrical pools radiate from this center, each representing one of the earth's traditional elements: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. In ancient times, pilgrims would visit small stone chapels linking these pools to sit beneath beautifully carved fountains, shaped like a human head, a horse, a lion, and an elephant, to be cleansed by the running water. The central sanctuary features two great stone Nagas (serpents) whose intertwined tails give the temple its modern name, "the entwined serpents." It is a peaceful, water-locked oasis that perfectly showcases the brilliant hydraulic engineering and compassionate spiritual vision of the ancient Khmer Empire. Amazing walk!
Ta Som temple
Your next stop on the Grand Circuit brings us to Ta Som, a wonderfully intimate, late 12th-century Buddhist monastery that offers a much more peaceful and secluded atmosphere than its larger neighbors. Built by King Jayavarman VII and dedicated to Budhhism, Ta Som is a classic example of the distinct Bayon architectural style. As we approach, you'll immediately notice the striking cross-shaped gateways, or gopuras, topped with towering, four-sided stone faces of the Bodhisattva Lokeshvara looking out silently in the cardinal directions. While it is a compact, flat-layout temple that is easy to navigate, it packs an incredible visual punch. Walking from west to east through its quiet, sandstone corridors, you will discover remarkably well-preserved carvings of devatas—sacred female spirits—displaying highly detailed jewelry and expressions. The ultimate highlight of Ta Som awaits you at the far eastern gate, which provides one of the most iconic and romantic sights in all of Angkor. Here, a massive sacred strangler fig tree has completely conquered the stone face-tower. Its colossal, wood-colored roots cascade directly down over the ancient masonry, framing the entrance like a living cage and perfectly holding the crumbling structure together. It is a stunning, poetic display of nature literally reclaiming civilization, and sitting quietly in its shadow lets you truly experience the deep, timeless magic of the jungle.
East Mebon temple
East Mebon, a majestic 10th-century Hindu temple, tells a fascinating story of ancient engineering and spiritual geometry. Built in 953 AD by King Rajendravarman II and dedicated to the god Shiva, East Mebon is a classic "temple-mountain" that serves as the older twin to nearby Pre Rup. What makes this site mind-blowing is its original setting: it was built on an artificial island right at the center of the massive East Baray—an immense reservoir measuring seven kilometers long. In its golden age, the surrounding landscape was a vast, shimmering sea, and worshippers could only reach these steps by royal boat! Today, the reservoir is dry and replaced by lush rice paddies, but the temple's grand landing docks still hint at its aquatic past. As we explore the three levels of this laterite and brick pyramid, you'll meet the temple's most iconic residents: remarkably well-preserved, life-size stone elephants standing guard at each corner of the lower terraces. Climbing to the top platform, you will find five soaring brick towers arranged in a quincunx pattern, symbolizing the peaks of Mount Meru, the cosmic home of the Hindu gods. Take a close look at the sandstone lintels above the doorways; they feature some of the most intricate and delicate carvings from the 10th century, beautifully depicting deities like Indra riding his three-headed elephant. It is an awe-inspiring testament to how the Khmer masters beautifully blended water, stone, and the divine.
Preah Dak Village - Lunch stop
You will stop in this local village for Khmer traditional palm cupped cakes and local lunch.
Banteay Samre temple
Banteay Samre, a hidden gem located slightly off the main Grand Circuit path, offers one of the most serene and well-preserved experiences in the entire Angkor Park. Translating to "The Citadel of the Samre," this mid-12th-century Hindu temple was built by King Suryavarman II, the very same mastermind behind Angkor Wat. Because they share the same era, Banteay Samre showcases identical, classic Angkor-style architecture, featuring a beautifully proportional central tower with a distinct lotus-bud silhouette. What makes this temple absolute magic for visitors is its peacefulness; since it sits away from the heaviest crowds, we can explore its stunning architecture in relative quiet. The temple is built primarily from rich, pinkish-gray sandstone, and its inner courtyards are enclosed by high laterite walls that create a powerful sense of an ancient fortress. As we walk along the raised stone causeways and pass through the elegant gopuras, you will be amazed by the exceptional quality of the preservation work, which was meticulously reconstructed using the anastylosis method by French archaeologists. Look closely at the pediments and lintels above the doorways—they feature deeply carved, dynamic narrative reliefs depicting Hindu mythology, including dramatic battle scenes from the Ramayana epic. It is a wonderfully intact monument where the harmony of pristine stone carving, intelligent drainage systems, and peaceful isolation lets you truly feel like an early explorer.
Pre Rup temple
Pre Rup is one of the most spectacular temple-mountains in the entire Angkor region. Constructed in 961 AD by King Rajendravarman II as his state temple and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, Pre Rup represents the pinnacle of early Khmer brick architecture. The name translates locally to "Turning the Body," reflecting a fascinating Cambodian tradition that believes this site was used for royal cremation rituals, where the ashes of the deceased were ritually flipped in a stone cistern. Built from a bold, textured combination of gray sandstone, reddish laterite, and volcanic brick, the temple rises sharply in a steep, three-tiered pyramid layout that leaves a commanding impression on anyone who approaches its base. As we ascend its remarkably steep, monumental stone stairs, we cross past weathered guardian lions and large, crumbling library buildings on the lower terraces. Reaching the uppermost platform, we are greeted by five massive, soaring central towers arranged in a sacred quincunx pattern that replicates the peaks of the divine Mount Meru. The true magic of Pre Rup reveals itself in the late afternoon; as the sun begins its low descent, the ancient red bricks and weathered laterite blocks absorb the warm light, glowing a brilliant, radiant orange. Looking out from this majestic height, you are treated to an unforgettable, sweeping panoramic view over the surrounding endless green rice paddies and jungle canopy. Amazing day!

“Wonderful tour around Siem Reap”
Saroun was an excellent guide for our 2 days touring Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. He accommodated all of our requests and balanced the needs of our diverse group. The van was comfortable, with excellent AC. After each temple, we’d return to cold water and fresh cold face-cloths. Saroun spoke excellent English and animated the history, religion, politics and architecture of the sites. Each temple came alive with his guidance. We absolutely loved our time in Cambodia. Plus he takes excellent photos with his advanced phone and knows where to get the best shots! I highly recommend you engage his services for the best time.

“Brilliant!”
Saroun is a lovely gentleman and fantastic guide. He delivers the tour in an engaging way by using conversation as the way to communicate. Saroun has extensive knowledge of the Angkor Wat national park and Cambodia. He details the importance of Cambodia's historical events. The driver that works with Saroun is very courteous and kept the vehicle in immaculate condition considering we had a lot of rain on our tour, not to mention the cold towels and water to refresh you. If you are looking for any tour in Cambodia that Saroun offers, he is your guide! You don't need to look anywhere else, just book with Saroun!

Beng Mealea + Banteay Srei
This tour is another choice for someone who wishes to avoid crowed tourists. These two main temple are so beautiful by their own attraction. Beng Mealea is attractive because of the jungle view and its ruinous state, walking inside this is magic and impressive. On the other hand, Banteay is attractive because of the apogee of craftsmen for carving the most intricate carvings for decorating this temple. The color of the stones used makes the temple even more beautiful.
