About 20–30 km southeast of Siem Reap, on the edge of Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake.

Population: Around 3,000–3,700 people, mostly Khmer.

Houses: Built on stilts 6–9 meters high, designed to withstand dramatic seasonal changes in water level.

Lifestyle: The community relies heavily on fishing during the wet season and farming (mainly rice) during the dry season.

Ancient Kampong Kdei Bridge

The Kompong Kdei Bridge (also called Spean Praptos) is one of the oldest and most impressive Angkor-era bridges in Cambodia. Here are some key points about it:

Location: Kompong Kdei town, Siem Reap province, about 60 km east of Siem Reap city on the road to Phnom Penh (National Road 6).

History: Built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the 12th century, the same king who built Bayon and Ta Prohm.

Construction: Made of laterite and sandstone blocks, with 21 arches supported by naga (serpent) balustrades.

Size: It’s about 85 meters long and 14 meters wide, making it one of the longest corbelled stone-arch bridges from the Angkor period still standing.
