About 800 years ago, the common ancestors immigrate to Shanghai and establish Danshui Temple. Several decades later, these ancestors moved their village to a new place. Shanghainese established a town with this place as its center.
After the First Opium War, the Qing Empire was forced to sign the Treaty of Nanjing with Great Britain .Under the Land Regulations and Bye-Laws for the Foreign Settlement of Shanghai, a piece of land outside Shanghai walled city was governed by George Balfour.

Origin of the Bund was the most original plot of land in the British settlement and the birthplace of modern Shanghai.
Visit the WaItanyuan(Origin of The Bund), Go among Rowing Club,Union Church and Former British Consulate General.
The Bund and Nanjing East Road
Stroll around historic buildings of The Bund that includes Bank of China Building, Sassoon House/Cathay Hotel and so on. Introduce the development of the Bund from 1845-now and architectural aesthetic from 1845-1943. Strolling along Nanjing East Road, which is China's longest commercial street and listen to the life of gentlemen and businessmen in old times. The Former Four British Department Stores, Holy Trinity Church(Anglican) and Former Shanghai Municipal Council(the largest civic hall in the Far East) will be mentioned as well.

Shanghai Walled City
Tour route from Wharf of Shiliupu to Dajing Ge Pavilion and Ancient City Wall. You will travel back to ancient China and experience the life of ancient Chinese people of three hundred years ago.
Yuyuan Garden
The private garden built by the richest man in ancient Shanghai for his father. A traditional garden in the south of Yangtze River, once the center of ancient Shanghai.
Chenghuang Tempple
Chenghuang is the patron saint of the town, which is similar with Athena in the Acropolis or Sanctus Georgius in England. Different from other towns, Shanghai has two patron saints/Chenghuang.

Jade Buddha Temple
Jade Buddha Temple's original construction was built more than 140 year ago. a Zen(Chan Sect) temple of Chinese Buddhism. A Chinese monk named Hui Gen went to Myanmar where he collected five Jade Buddha status from local overseas Chinese.In 1882, Hui Gen left two statues, which were enshrine in a new temple(Jade Buddha Temple). In 2014, old Jade Buddha Temple was renovated.

Greater Shanghai Plan
Despite winning the 1911 Revolution, Kuomintang failed to dominate international settlement and concession, which was under foreign control. Therefore, Kuomintang set in motion the Greater Shanghai Plan in Jiangwan area for constructing a new administration centre to reconstruct shanghai and replace international settlement. New buildings of Greater Shanghai Plan were required to be constructed and designed within Chinese traditional forms and modern construction techniques.
