Walking for Cologne's Beer, the Kölsch
Kölsch is a beer and a dialect, and both live in the lanes of the Old Town. This walk visits no brewhouses: we follow Kölsch through streets, squares and stories. Commercial brewing in Cologne began around 1200, and in 1396 the brewers co-sealed the Verbundbrief, the city’s new constitution. At the Ostermann Fountain we meet the characters from Willi Ostermann’s dialect songs. You hear why Cologners speak of their beer like family. Committed, factual, curious.
