- The meeting point is Amritsar Town Hall, a well-known colonial-era landmark located inside the Walled City, close to the Golden Temple. This central location is easy to reach by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or on foot and serves as a convenient starting point for exploring Amritsar’s historic old town. Your guide will be waiting outside the Town Hall entrance, making it simple for travelers to identify the meeting location. Kubi Ram Pakoras Wala
The first culinary delight on this tour is Kubi Ram Pakoras, a humble yet iconic street food snack that has been a favorite of locals for decades. These pakoras are crispy vegetable fritters made from a seasonal selection of fresh vegetables, coated in a chickpea flour batter seasoned with aromatic spices including cumin, coriander, turmeric, and chili powder.
Traditional Punjabi Masala Chai
After savoring the crisp pakoras, travelers are led to a quaint tea stall nestled in one of the Walled City’s bustling alleys. Here, they experience traditional Punjabi masala chai, a drink that is far more than a simple beverage—it is a cultural institution.
Preparation & Ingredients
Masala chai is brewed with freshly boiled milk, combined with a blend of spices including cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper. Each stall has its own secret spice proportions, which are passed down through generations. At this particular stall, the tea is slow-brewed in small brass kettles, allowing the flavors to meld perfectly.
Amritsari Kulcha at Kulwant Singh Kulche Wala
Experience one of Amritsar’s most famous local foods at Kulwant Singh Kulche Wala, a well-known eatery inside the Walled City. The Amritsari aloo kulcha is a traditional Punjabi bread, baked in a clay tandoor and loved by locals and visitors alike.
The kulcha dough is prepared fresh every day using refined wheat flour, water, yeast, and yogurt. It is generously stuffed with spiced mashed potatoes mixed with green chilies, fresh coriander, amchur, and garam masala. Each kulcha is hand-pressed and baked in a traditional tandoor, creating a crispy outer layer and a soft, fluffy center.
Served hot with chole, onions, and tangy chutneys, this iconic dish offers an authentic taste of Punjabi street food and showcases the traditional cooking methods of Amritsar.
Gurdas Ram Jalebi Wala
Witness jalebis being freshly fried in hot ghee, forming beautiful golden spirals before being soaked in warm sugar syrup. Enjoy them crisp on the outside and soft inside, best tasted fresh and warm for maximum flavor.
Cultural Insight: Jalebis are an essential part of Punjabi celebrations, commonly served during festivals, weddings, and special occasions. Their spiral shape is traditionally associated with prosperity, happiness, and good fortune, making this sweet treat both delicious and culturally meaningful.
Kesar Da Dhaba
Special Vegetarian Thali at Kesar Da Dhaba – A Timeless Punjabi Experience
The tour concludes at Kesar Da Dhaba, one of Amritsar’s most iconic and historic eateries, celebrated for preserving authentic Punjabi vegetarian cuisine for over a century. Dining here is more than a meal—it is a cultural experience rooted in tradition, simplicity, and warm Punjabi hospitality.
The Punjabi vegetarian thali includes slow-cooked dal enriched with ghee, freshly prepared paneer dishes, seasonal vegetables cooked in traditional style, steamed rice, and hot rotis, followed by a classic dessert such as kheer or halwa. These dishes reflect home-style cooking methods passed down through generations and offer travelers a genuine taste of Amritsar’s culinary heritage.
Gian Di Lassi – A Legendary Taste of Amritsar
Gian Di Lassi is more than just a drink—it is an institution in Amritsar and a true symbol of Punjabi hospitality. Known across India for its thick, rich, and naturally sweet lassi, this iconic spot has been serving generations of locals and travelers with the same dedication to quality and tradition.
Lassi in Punjab is not only a refreshment but an essential part of daily life. After enjoying rich and spicy foods like pakoras, kulchas, and jalebis and Thali , a glass of lassi provides the perfect balance, cooling the palate and aiding digestion.
