Piazza Vecchia (The Old Square)

Piazza Vecchia is the magnificent heart of Bergamo Alta, framed by some of the city’s most important historic buildings. Admire the Palazzo della Ragione, the elegant Palazzo Nuovo and the soaring Campanone, while the Contarini Fountain adds a graceful focal point at the center of the square. Surrounded by cafés and centuries of history, it is the perfect place to feel the timeless atmosphere of Bergamo.

Piazza Duomo- The Cathedral Square

Piazza Duomo brings together some of Bergamo’s most remarkable buildings: the Cathedral with its elegant façade, the richly decorated Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the colorful marble Colleoni Chapel and the Baptistery, all gathered in one beautiful and surprisingly intimate square.

And you will discover also a curious story about his mortal remains and his coat of arms!

The main street of Bergamo’s Upper Town, Via Colleoni follows the medieval heart of the city, lined with historic buildings, shops and cafés. Along the way, we’ll pass the elegant Teatro Sociale, a landmark of Bergamo’s cultural life.

Cittadella

The Cittadella is a remarkable medieval complex at the heart of Bergamo’s Upper Town. Once part of the city’s defensive system, today it houses the Archaeological and Natural Science Museums, while its arcades often host markets and cultural events, bringing this historic space to life.

Largo Colle Aperto

Largo Colle Aperto marks the western edge of Bergamo’s historic center, with the imposing Saint Alexander's Gate, where we can admire the San Vigilio funicular. Nearby is La Marianna, the historic pastry shop where stracciatella gelato was invented in 1961. And we cannot miss it!

The Venetian Walls

From the San Giovanni Bastion, we’ll discover a section of Bergamo’s impressive Venetian Walls, built in the 16th century and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walk offers beautiful views over the city and surrounding hills.
