Tired of the hustle and bustle? Well, this tour's for you! We'll hit up some of Kamakura's most beautiful, nature-filled temples, take a relaxing 1.5-hour hike through the low-lying mountains that surround Kamakura, and get somee delicious lunch (vegan or not). We'll also hit up some goregous bamboo forests, and even sip on some matcha in one!
Kita-Kamakura Station (or your hotel)
- This is the station before Kamakura if you're coming from Tokyo or Yokohama! Please don't forget to get off.
This is one the most unique temples in Kamakura, with a wide variety of interesting and sometimes downright strange statuary lying about. It's also the most historically important and oldest zen temple in Kamakura.
Right behind Kencho-ji, there's an trailhead for the Ten-En Hiking Trail, where we'll set off for our hike, which will take a little over an hour, depending on our pace. This hike isn't particularly difficult, but it can be a bit slippery at times, so make sure to wear grippy shoes! ;)
Visit a shrine steeped in samurai history AND engage in a fun local tradition that will improve your luck!
For vegans: We'll be eating at a brand new restaurant that just opened called Kazro Deli.
For non-vegans: there are a whole ton of options in the area. I'll give you my recommendations on the day or we can just go in to anywhere that strikes your fancy.
Visit one of the most important temples in Kamakura, closely tied to the former Shogun clan the Ashikagas. Enjoy its beautiful gardens and interesting carved graves.
This temple is famous for its gorgeous bamboo forest. And, in my opinion, the entire temple is impeccably manicured and well worth a visit. Despite being many hundreds of years old, it looks well-near brand new in places.
We'll also sit down and sip some matcha in their cafe, enjoying the atmoshpere of their bamboo forest.
Head back to the area around Kamakura Station and do some shopping or get some snacks.

1. This tour involves a lot of walking on trails in the mountains, so make sure to wear good walking/running shoes.
2. There is, sadly, only one vegan restaurant in the part of Kamakura that we're going to. If it happens to be unexpectedly closed, we will have to make some big changes to the itinerary in order to get everyone fed in an ethical manner.
3. If you have any food allergies, let me know ahead of time.
I'm amenable to changes in my itinerary. If you have some places that you really want to go to, just let me know, and I'll change our plans to see that you get there.
