Niigata has been developed as a port city at the mouth of big river. The Niigata port has been active since the 17th century, the samurai era. So, we have a lot of sightseeing sites which represent the flourishment of the town in those days. You can enjoy a wealthy merchant’s house and garden, a landlord’s mansion or a model of wooden boat which sailed all over Japan at that time. Along with those historical sites, the people’s markets are very enjoyable. Farmers and fishermen sell their fresh products at the portable tents along the street. Please stroll the area and find some very local fish and veggies. I am waiting for your visit to Niigata!

I came into town as a photographer and event manager and despite of Barcelona's guff post-industrial charm I was instantly overwhelmed by the creativity and passion of its people, their way of seeing things and to live their lives. About myself – Sharona L. My parents made Aliya= emigrated from Philadelphia to Israel in 1963. So I was born in 1970 and raised here as a "sabra" – that’s what native Israelis call themselves. I grew up hearing both English and Hebrew in my home. My family – parents, 3 siblings and myself – always liked travelling and nature. Camping and hiking are a good part of my best childhood memories. As a teenager I joined a youth hiking club which was based in the Judean Desert. The club belonged to the SPNI – Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel. During our hikes we also learned about the geology, biology and history of the places we visited. I knew already back then, that this is what I wanted to do with my life – hike in nature and visit interesting sites and places. After graduating high school I did my mandatory service in the Israel Defense Forces. I was a gardener, and fiercely fought against all weeds in the army bases I served in… When released from service, I went to study "Land of Israel Studies" at the Beit-Berl Teachers College. I received a B.Ed in geography and my official Tour Guide certification from the Ministry of Tourism in 1995. I have been a tour guide ever since. I love my job, and I love my country. I named both my sons after mountains in Israel – Tavor (20), and Bental (17).

Being a native from Villefranche-sur-Mer, located between Nice and Monaco and facing the world-famous Cap Ferrat, I grew up in the heart of the French Riviera. I loved going to see the festivities of the Nice Carnaval in February like the Menton lemon festival, the Monaco palace with its guards and its Cousteau Oceanic museum, the luxury cars of Monte-Carlo were something special for me because my father was a professional sports car mechanic who participated in the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix for more than 10 years. We were also lucky in May to enjoy the Cannes Film Festival and meet film actors and actresses or French televisions celebrities walking on the Boulevard de La Croisette. Every time I mention my first job outside of Nice, outside of France, I always have the same answer full of surprises " how did you end up in Idaho...?" Well, back in Feb. 2002, during the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, I had the great opportunity to work for two years at the famous Sun Valley Ski Resort as a restaurant and banquet manager. I enjoyed every opportunity to visit most of the West Side and have fond memories of it because it was so different from my hometown French Riviera and also another exclusive, "rich and famous" place to experience. Back in Nice, back in school to be certified as a licensed lecturer-guide, i now take every opportunity to show my clients my area as a local and make sure they feel at home, throughout their stay.
