About Tour Guide Noel M.
Hello everyone!
Many thanks for checking out my profile. I'm originally from New Zealand but have spent my adult life here in Japan. The Nagoya area has been my home since the early nineties. I have witnessed the region's transformation from a sleepy industrial city to the vibrant metropolis of today. I would love the opportunity to tell you about some of my adventures and also a few of the outstanding people I've met.
I spent many years practicing karate and have also developed a deep interest in Buddhism. I speak Japanese confidently.
I'm new to GoWithGuide but have previous experience giving walking tours. To be able to introduce you to a few of my favourite Nagoya suburbs would be a treat. There are fascinating, historic temples as well as a stupa that purportedly contains a portion of the Buddha's ashes. Also, there are numerous tempting eateries and a few quirky shops. I prefer guiding guests around these less visited areas as you can get a feel for how the locals live.
I look forward to meeting you soon.

Fascinating Kakouzan and Motoyama. Don't miss the giant green Buddha!
The Kakouzan and Motoyama areas of Nagoya provide a fascinating alternative to the standard highlights tour. Let's visit Nitaiji temple which is a repository for a portion of the Buddha's ashes. See if you can work out how to light an incense offering. Enjoy the quiet oasis of the private garden of one of Nagoya′s wealthiest men. Have a break at one of the inviting eateries. If you are game make a wish at the lovers tree. And, of course, discover the giant green Buddha.

Nagoya Castle, experience the modern and historic walking tour.
Let's enjoy a morning walk through central Nagoya. Starting at the post-war Hisaya-Odori park, with It's famous TV tower and recently revamped shopping and eating area, and continuing to historic Nagoya Castle. The castle was the seat of Tokugawa Ieyasu and also one inspiration for a famous novel. We then continue to Nagoya Station via streets which routes haven't changed for 400 years. We will conclude the tour with a view from the top of one of Nagoya's newest buildings.

It was a pleasure to meet you both today. I felt a rapport with you from the start so it was as though I was spending the morning with two friends. I'm sure you'll have a fantastic adventure during the remainder of your time in Japan. Atala, keep up with your Japanese and a guide won't be necessary next time. Safe voyages.

“Fascinating and enjoyable day in Nagoya”
Had a great day with Noel, felt like being shown around by a friend. Noel took the time to find out about where we are from before we arrived and conversation flowed all day. Noel took us to neighbourhoods off the tourist track to see what felt like real Japanese life, unique shrines, temples and gardens. He had a great knowledge of local history and religion. Fabulous day, would highly recommend Noel if youre in town. Thank you Noel.

“Off the beaten path”
We had an awesome day exploring some hidden gems with Noel. The giant green Buddha was definitely a highlight. It was also great to learn the day to day life of an ex Kiwi lining in Japan. A lot was packed in to the tour time, but lots of photo and question opportunities. Many thanks!

Tetsuji Y.
Hello everyone. I am Tetsuji. I worked as a public servant in the local government for 35 years. I belonged to the department of Redevelopment, Town-Landscaping, Preserving historical areas and Architectural Guidance. (I have a national 1st-class architect license.) I devoted myself to revitalizing the city by making plans and improving infrastructure for citizens. Gifu is located in central Japan near Nagoya. As just being the crossroads of the West and the East, there are many unique attractions that are hard to discover in hectic big cities like Tokyo or Kyoto. I had a hand in restoring and preserving some of them throughout my career and want to introduce them to tourists from abroad. That’s why I became a guide-interpreter in Gifu. I also enjoyed traveling around the world. My favorite part of each trip was walking around the city and talking with local residents. Traveling has taught me lots of things during my lifetime. Now, I would like to help others have similar experience in Japan. Shall we enjoy fantastic journey in Gifu?

Tommie T.
Welcome to Nagoya! I’m Tommie, a nationally certified guide based in central Japan. Having lived in six different countries since childhood, I have a passion for cultural exchange and connecting with people from all walks of life. After spending 14 years abroad, I now enjoy sharing the hidden charms of my lovely hometown, Nagoya, with international travelers like you! With experience guiding small groups and couples, I focus on creating warm, flexible, and meaningful tours. Whether you’re into history, local food, cars, modern city life, or traditional crafts, I can tailor the tour to match your interests. If you’ve already visited Tokyo or Kyoto, you’ll find Nagoya refreshingly less crowded and more relaxed. Here, you can enjoy authentic experiences with a local touch. Known not only as the home of TOYOTA, Nagoya also has strong roots in Samurai culture and offers a unique blend of tradition and innovation. Meantime, you can enjoy unique local specialities, such as Miso-Katsu( Pork cutlet with Miso), Hitsumabushi(grilled eel)etc., and also enjoy hands-on cultural experiences like Shiori dyeing or traditional fan-making. There’s so much to explore here. I’d love to be part of your memorable journey. Let’s enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime adventure together!
