About Tour Guide Andrew W.
I have been a Tourist Guide since c.2014. I started out as a Green Badge Tourist Guide for Southampton, then took a Blue Badge course to become a guide for the central southern region of England.
I have a passion for history and beautiful places, and would like to share them with you.

Maritime Portsmouth & Spice Island from Southampton
Explore England's naval history through its iconic ships. Portsmouth Historical Dockyard is home to The Mary Rose, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and HMS M33. The Mary Rose (1511) was Henry VIII's flagship that sunk in the Battle of the Solent against the French in 1545. HMS Victory was Admiral Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in c.1805. HMS Warrior is the world's first iron-clad warship, built in c.1860. HMS M33 is one of only 3 remaining WWI ships left in the world.
Stonehenge & Salisbury
We will travel to Stonehenge via the New Forest, traditionally the hunting ground of the kings of England. Stonehenge is an ancient wonder of the world, built approximately 5,000 years ago. Was it a place of worship, or sacrifice? From Stonehenge, we travel to Salisbury, a beautiful medieval city, full of historical buildings and a beautiful cathedral, and the best fish n' chips.
The Titanic Trail
We start our tour at the Seacity Museum to explore the Titanic Exhibition, and learn all about the famous cruise ship. Afterwards, we go on a walking tour through the streets of Southampton to discover the buildings connected with the Titanic story.
Magna Carta - Trilithons - King Arthur's Round Table
Salisbury is home to a 13th century cathedral and an original copy of the Magna Carta. There is also a market square with the best fish n' chips in town. Stonehenge is an ancient monument, built by Neolithic Man to determine the solstices. Some people believe that it was built by aliens... Winchester is home to a Norman cathedral and the Great Hall, home to King Arthur's Round Table.
Medieval Winchester tour from Southampton
Winchester was the capital of Wessex during the reign of the Anglo-Saxons, and home to King Alfred the Great. On arrival in the city, you will see a magnificent statue of King Alfred the Great in a commanding position over the city. We will visit the cathedral where Jane Austen is buried, and the Great Hall, home to King Arthur's Round Table.

“Nice but not up to expectations ”
Pleasant but not the level of l knowledge or expertise we hoped for. We had expected a guide with a deeper passion for and knowledge of English nautical history. We learned more for overhearing other guides then from Andy.

(1 reviews)Dear Fred, Thank you very much for booking a tour with me, and for your very generous gratuity. It is regrettable when expectation does not align with reality. The level of expertise that you expected could only realistically be obtained from a museum curator / expert; something that I never claim to be. The full-time staff located on the specific ships have an encyclopaedic knowledge, and therefore they would know the more obscure facts like how Nelson liked to dry his feet on the rugs in his cabin. I hope that your head has recovered from the low decks on HMS Victory. Have a lovely rest of your stay in England. Best wishes, Andrew
