Hi, my name is Joe and I’m the founder of Makgeolli work shop studio. I’m also a Korean alcohol sommelier with a deep love for well-being and healthy food.
I was born in Ecuador and raised in the United States, but I always felt a strong connection to my Korean roots. When I finally made my way to Korea, I knew that I wanted to find a way to connect with my heritage. That’s when I discovered the craft of making Makgeolli.
Our book, classes, and online content have reached out to makgeolli enthusiasts all over the world, and it makes me happy when people have found help through us, and even start experimenting and making their own makgeolli creations.
I’m passionate about introducing Korea’s rice wine culture to the rest of the world, so If you are interested in learning more about our services please do not hesitate to take part in our Makgeolli making experience.

As a Soju lover and Makgeolli lover myself, Joe's class was truly fulfilling. Not only did he show how to make Makgeolli, he gave us full size lecture of Sake-related knowledge in general, and in details of some parts. It actually helped us understand Japanese "sake" culture, too. Thanks to his PC screen share and his easy English for non-English native, our group understood his point without any stress. Kids also enjoyed activity part. He also helped us a lot to make our first trial of Hondae Busking! Dance videos were successfully recorded and our kids got many of applause & compliment words 대박. Thank you very much Joe, your hospitability was amazing and you made our stay unforgettable. See you again.
