As a proud local guide born and raised in Zanzibar, I invite you to discover the true heart of the Spice Island on this private Stone Town walking tour.

Stone Town is a living UNESCO World Heritage Site — a fascinating maze of narrow alleys, intricately carved wooden doors, aromatic markets, and centuries of Swahili, Arab, Indian, Persian and European history. This is not a rushed group tour. We walk at your pace, stop for photos, and dive into the stories that make Zanzibar unique.

Meeting Point

Old Fort , Stone Town

- Meeting point: Main entrance of the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe), Stone Town, Zanzibar. The Old Fort is located on the seafront next to Forodhani Gardens. It is one of the most famous landmarks in Stone Town and very easy to locate. I will be standing near the main gate, ready to welcome you. Please look for me holding a small sign with your name. Tip: Arrive a few minutes early if possible. If you have any difficulty finding the location or need directions from your hotel, just send me a message — I’m happy to help.!

Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe)

We start our tour at the historic Old Fort, also known as Ngome Kongwe. Built by the Omanis in the 17th century, this large stone fortress is one of the oldest buildings in Stone Town. Here I will give you an introduction to the history of Zanzibar and explain the mix of cultures that shaped the island.

Forodhani Gardens & Seafront

We walk along the beautiful seafront to Forodhani Gardens. This open space offers great views of the Indian Ocean and is a popular place for locals and visitors. I will share stories about the area and the famous evening food market that takes place here.

House of Wonders (Beit-al-Ajaib)

We visit the area of the House of Wonders, one of the most iconic buildings in Stone Town. Once the tallest building in East Africa and the first to have electricity, it reflects the power and influence of the sultans. I will explain its history and importance.

Freddie Mercury House

We stop at the house where the legendary singer Freddie Mercury (Farrokh Bulsara) spent part of his childhood. I will tell you about his early life in Zanzibar and the multicultural that influenced him.

Historic Alleys & Traditional Zanzibari Doors

We explore the narrow winding alleys of Stone Town, famous for their beautiful carved wooden doors. These doors are a symbol of Zanzibar’s rich cultural heritage, blending African, Arab, Indian and European influences. Perfect for photos and discovering hidden corners.

Anglican Cathedral & Former Slave Market

One of the most important and emotional stops of the tour. We visit the Anglican Cathedral, built on the site of the former slave market. I will share the history of the slave trade in Zanzibar and the significance of this memorial site.

Darajani Market (Ending Point)

We finish our tour at the lively Darajani Market, the main local market in Stone Town. Here you can experience the colours, smells and energy of daily Zanzibari life. Feel free to explore, shop for spices, souvenirs or fresh products, or continue discovering the area on your own.

Ending Point

The tour will end at Darajani Market, the main local market in Stone Town. Darajani Market is full of colours, spices, fresh produce, and local life — a great place to experience the real daily atmosphere of Zanzibar.
