Ayutthaya Like a Local: Train & Tuk-Tuk Heritage Adventure
Skip the crowded tour buses. Let’s experience the ancient capital of Siam the way locals actually do!
We’ll start with a scenic morning train ride from Bangkok, watching the city fade into lush countryside. Once we arrive, we’ll hop into a unique "frog-nosed" Tuk-Tuk to explore. I'll take you through bustling neighborhood markets, show you my favorite hidden corners, and guide you through the jaw-dropping ruins of UNESCO-listed Ayutthaya. It’s the perfect mix of rich history and real local life!

Meeting Point
Krung Thep Apiwat Central Train Station
- We’ll meet up early at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in Bangkok. I’ll grab our train tickets, and we’ll head up to the platform. The 2-hour train ride is super relaxing and gives you a front-row seat to the changing Thai landscape.
Dive into Chao Phrom Market
As soon as we step off the train, we’ll dive straight into Chao Phrom Market. This is a huge, bustling wet market where locals do their daily shopping. We’ll stroll through the stalls, check out the fresh produce, and grab some Roti Sai Mai (Ayutthaya’s famous cotton candy wrap) to snack on.
Tuk-Tuk Time & Temple Exploration
Our private Tuk-Tuk driver will pick us up right from the market. To make the most of our time and beat the biggest crowds, we’ll head to the temples in this order:
Wat Yai Chaimongkol: This is one of my personal favorites. It features a massive, bell-shaped chedi that you can climb up, surrounded by beautiful rows of cloth-draped Buddha statues.
Wat Mahathat: This is where you'll see the famous sandstone Buddha head naturally nestled inside the roots of a Banyan tree. It’s an incredible sight to see in person.
Wat Phra Sri Sanphet: Located inside the old royal palace grounds, this grand site is famous for its three iconic, matching stupas that show just how powerful the old capital used to be.
Lunch Break
We’ll stop for a relaxing lunch near the ruins. I can point you toward some amazing local spots depending on what you’re craving—whether that’s Ayutthaya’s legendary boat noodles or some fresh river prawns.
Afternoon Sightseeing
Wat Lokayasutharam: We'll stop here to see a stunning, 42-meter-long reclining Buddha statue out in the open air, usually wrapped in bright orange robes.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram: We’ll end our temple run at this breathtaking, Khmer-style temple sitting right on the riverbank. It’s incredibly photogenic and a peaceful way to wrap up our history tour.
Back to the Station
Our Tuk-Tuk will drop us back off at the Ayutthaya Railway Station with plenty of time to grab a cold drink and get settled before departure.
Train Back to Bangkok
We’ll catch the 3:40 PM train back to the city. You can kick back, edit your photos, or just enjoy the afternoon breeze on the ride home.
Wrap Up
We’ll arrive back at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in Bangkok, where our tour officially ends. You'll head home with a camera full of great photos and a genuine taste of local Thai life.
