Holyrood Abbey/Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Viewed from the exterior (optional visit, admissions extra). The Abbey was founded by Kind David I in 1128. The Palace has links to Mary Queen of Scotland and today is the Kings official residence in Scotland.

Whitehorse Close

Hidden behind some 1970 architecture is this hidden gem. Once the Royal Stables, accommodation for Jacobite Officers, and much painted and photographed over the years.

Dunbar Close Garden

Tranquil haven in the heart of the old town. Laid out as a 17th century garden this is such an unexpected gem.

Bakehouse Close

Beautifully preserved 16th century Close (alleyway). The Baxters of the Canongate owned property here.

Chessel's Court

Once the location of the Edinburgh Excise Office which was the site of a famous robbery in 1778 by the notorious Deacon Brodie, did this incident inspire Robert Lous Stevenson to write the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde?

Tweeddale Court

Home to the smallest listed building in the city and part of the City Wall from the 1450's
