About Tour Guide Stephen G.
"Madame Lily Devalier always asked 'Where are you?' in a way that insinuated that there were only two places on earth one could be: New Orleans and somewhere ridiculous. "
― Tom Robbins, Jitterbug Perfume
Madame Devalier can certainly be forgiven. My first arrival in New Orleans, more than 30 years ago, was memorable for two reasons: It was the day I made my home here, and the day I fell in love with this irresistible town. There is much here to love: The agreeable climate, the teeming gardens, the ornate streetscapes, and the most hospitable people in the world, all surrounded, as it turns out, by the most civilized small city in the New World. The rich, fragrant essences of hospitality, authenticity and celebration infuse the very air, and inform every aspect of our lives, even in the face of adversity and loss.
Over the course of my long career in the hotel industry, my life's work has rewarded me with countless opportunities to welcome you, the intrepid and curious pilgrim, to the Creole City and to what my favorite singer/songwriter, Mr. John Boutte, intones as the "Eternal Now". It is, by any measure, a labor of deep and abiding love for my one true home.
Here's some truth: The difference between a tourist and an honored guest is the right host. Playing that role is the path to my bliss, and I hope you will think of me not only as your host, but as your faithful guide and friend.
This mysterious metropole has much more to offer than space permits here, so check out my tour links. Want more? I am always happy to prepare a custom itinerary that I guarantee you'll love! 'Til then: Safe travels!
PS: If you've read this far and you're still with me, say "Hi". I'm sure we'll pass a good time!

Oak Alley Plantation is a historic plantation located on the west bank of the Mississippi River, in the community of Vacherie, St. James Parish, Louisiana. It is best known for its distinguishing visual feature, an alley (French allée) or canopied path, created by a double row of southern live oak trees about 800 feet (240 meters) long, planted in the early 18th century. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark for its architecture, landscaping and agricultural innovation.
