Two Churches

The Orthodox since 1891

Although only 1 % of the population in Japan are Christians, its presence and influence on Japanese society cannot be ignored. There are about 9,000 churches all over the country. The number of universities, whose origins are based on Christian teachings, is large compared to the population of Christians. A church in the photo above is named Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Tokyo, which is located near Ochanomizu station. It has long been a landmark around there on a hill. The other church in the photo below is named Sacred Heart Cathedral Yokohama, which is located in Yokohama's Yamate district.
