New City, Old City: Silicon Valley to aged street locals live
Morning in the Science Park of Nanshan: a glass dome, coffee delivered by drone, a robot barista, and a store of gadgets you can't buy yet. Then a driverless taxi to Shekou, where Shenzhen began — ginger milk curd, a wet market, and a white art centre on the water. One day, two Shenzhens.

Meeting Point
Hotel Pickup
- Meet your guide at your hotel lobby.
the Poly Cultural Plaza
A cultural plaza five minutes from Houhai station, with a curved glass ceiling that pours soft light down into the atrium. The best free photo spot in Science Park. There's usually an exhibition on upstairs.
Talent Park — coffee from the sky.
We order the local way: it flies in, five minutes in the air, and drops into a locker by the lake. Then a robot makes you an espresso while you watch, two minutes a cup. Skyline on one side, water on the other.
INNO100
Kickstarter's first authorised offline store in China — over a hundred brands you've read about but never touched. Strap on an exoskeleton, try AI glasses that translate in real time, ask a robot to dance.
Shenzhen's landmarks
The 392-metre "Spring Bamboo Shoot", the dome of the Spring Cocoon, and a cube-shaped headquarters wrapped in 360° of LED screen. Photo stop, ten minutes, worth it.
Lunch at the bay's biggest mall
Cantonese, Sichuan, Japanese, or something you've never heard of; I'll steer you. Afterwards, a walk down a pink-paved street that exists purely to be photographed.
Driverless taxi to Shekou, a leisure area mix old and new
Nobody in the driver's seat. The wheel turns itself. Twenty-five minutes across Nanshan, and yes, everyone films it.
Dessert at the top of the old street
Ginger milk curd — warm, silky, with a sharp little kick. Or mango pomelo sago. Plastic stools, shared table, no English menu.
Shekou wet market & the old neighbourhood
The oldest community in Shenzhen and still the most alive: live seafood in tanks, roast meat hanging in windows, herb tea stalls, old men playing cards in the shade.
Sea World & the art centre on the water
A white building by Pritzker laureate Fumihiko Maki, shaped like a ship docked at the harbour — mountain behind, sea in front. We go up to the roof terraces and end looking at the water.
End at Sea World
Stay for dinner by the harbour if you like — this is where Shenzhen actually eats.
Ending Point

About Tour Guide Mei L.
Hi there! I've called Shenzhen home for over 25 years — and this city still surprises me every day.
I spent more than a decade with a Fortune 500 company in the IT industry, but my heart has always been in connecting people across cultures. Today, I'm a licensed English tour guide and a Mandarin teacher for international students — combining my deep love for this city with my passion for sharing Chinese culture with visitors from around the world.
Shenzhen isn't just China's tech capital. It's a city of incredible food trails, vibrant markets, and stunning coastal hikes — and I want to show you the real Shenzhen, beyond the guidebooks.
I lived in Hong Kong for two years and volunteered over 200 hours with a Hong Kong-based charity, which deepened my cross-cultural perspective and my commitment to creating meaningful experiences for travelers.
I'm also an amateur photographer, a hiking lover, and a mom of two — which keeps me curious and energetic! Whether you're into street food, tech company visits, coastal walks, or cultural immersion, I'd love to craft a tour just for you.
The tours can be 100% customized according to your requirements. Let's talk and explore Shenzhen together!

“Perfect Day in Shenzhen”
I genuinely cannot recommend Mei enough!! She was absolutely wonderful and made my time in Shenzhen so special. She was incredibly kind, flexible, and thoughtful about what I wanted to do, and made the entire experience feel less like a tour and more like spending the day exploring the city with a friend! She took me to an amazing jewelry market, as well as a really cool local market and community area that I never would have discovered on my own. I loved getting to experience a more local side of Shenzhen, and she made everything feel so easy, comfortable, and fun. One of my favorite things about traveling is getting to experience places beyond the typical tourist attractions, and Mei really made that possible. I had such a wonderful time with her and would absolutely recommend her to anyone visiting Shenzhen. Thank you so much, Mei!!

Dear Jessica, reading this honestly made my day — thank you so much for such kind words. What you said about it feeling less like a tour and more like spending the day with a friend is exactly what I hope for every time. Every guest comes to Shenzhen with a different picture in their mind of what the city should feel like, and my job — and honestly my favorite part of this work — is figuring out what that picture is and trying to bring it to life. So hearing that I got it right for you means a great deal. And I have to say, the local market and those little neighborhood streets are some of my favorite places in the whole city. Getting to share them with someone who genuinely enjoys that side of travel was such a joy. Thank you for being so open, easygoing, and curious. You made the day easy and fun for me too. If you ever come back to Shenzhen, there's so much more I'd love to show and thank you again, truly.

Thank you so much! It was such a pleasure showing your family around — the mangroves, the bike ride along the bay, and all that amazing food in Shekou. Really appreciate the kind words about my English and the options — it means a lot. If you're ever back in Shenzhen, I'd love to show you more of the city. Safe travels home!
