Meeting Point

Pick Up at your accommodation

- The tour will start at 8 am from your accommodation

Travel through the Avenue of the Volcanoes

The day starts with pickups at participant accommodations in the city. If you’re staying outside of Quito, we’ll offer a meeting point.

The drive from Quito to the Quilotoa community takes about 3.5 hours in total. But, we break up the ride with a stop for a local breakfast that will hit the spot. While the drive is long, it gives a peek at real local life in Ecuador and exposes you to the incredible landscapes and small towns surrounding Quito.

Quilotoa Community & Lagoon

On the way, we’ll stop at one of the indigenous towns of Tigua, where you can visit a Gallery of a painter's family. The next stop will be at Zumbahua community, where we will walk around and explore the traditional indigenous market (only on Saturday).

After that, the last stop will be Quilotoa Community, where our adventure will start

Adventure in Quilotoa

Upon arrival, you have three options to choose from based on your preferences:

1. Hike the longer trails around the crater of the volcano. (5 to 6 hours)

2. Hike the regular paths and visit the lake where you can boat and kayak. (2.5 to 3.5 hours)

3. Hike a secret path we’ve uncovered that surrounds a smaller part of the lagoon and leads to the regular path. (3 to 4 hours)

Arriving again to the Community for lunch

After your make-your-own adventure, we’ll meet at the starting point and stop for lunch before heading back to Quito.

Tour Important Information

- It is a full-day trip, as the drive takes 3.5 hours each way from Quito.

- If you get motion sickness, let us know in advance so we can support you and have remedies!

- If you’d like to add a stop to visit an indigenous family art gallery, let us know. We’d be happy to add the stop!

- Wear warm clothes and layers. The crater lake area is at a high elevation, which means it can be chilly and windy, sometimes rainy. Best to be prepared!
